@zucas- Economically, NO isnt that major of a factor since Katrina. Prior, sure, but since then its only been operating at a fraction of what it once has. There's a big diff from another 'cane hitting NO and another 9/11 -like attack on NYC. Of course, no one wants to see NO get smashed again, Im just saying.

As for your theory about God being loving and forgiving, etc. God is wrathful throughout the bible, and smites many onsetters. NO has a rich history of shaminism, witch doctors etc in pockets that came with creole culture. What if it was a modern day Gomorrah? Mardi Gras has never been a meeting of holy people. =D

@twesterm - RUn don t do it!

It's obvious you have no idea how vital the survival of New Orleans is to the economic front in America is.  People are always saying how we need to bring more things into the country instead of outsourcing.  New Orleans is a big part of that and if it goes away then we lose anything we might have left.  New Orleans is vital for the oil industry in America and numerous other things that this country needs.  Saying it's not big economically even after Katrina is pure ignorance.  The rest of this country needs that port and what it ships and makes.

Also it was clear I was ragging on the fact that people think this god is loving and forgiving when he has been evertything but that.  I mean I wasn't tryign to bang on anyone's beliefs just giving my opinions on the situation after all this.

And that explains the abnormally quiet (hell, almost dead silent) 06 and 07 hurricane seasons?

We've had bad hurrican seasons the entire century.  The past decade hasn't been much worse than the 1960s, and I don't think you could explain away the intensity of storms in the 1960s as being a result of global warming.

 Global cooling was actually the worry of that day. The fact that we are still no where near the nightmare of the 05 season should show that global warming alone cannot hope to explain hurricanes. They ran out of names in 05 and we haven't even hit K.

Exactly.  As I was saying to some of my friends... MOTHER NATURE IS PISSED.  And unfortunately it will always win and it's taking out Louisiana and Cuba first apparnetly.

It isn't just global warming. Offshore drilling is really exacerbating coastline erosion in Louisiana. Have you even been to Port Fourchon or Intracoastal City? Those small towns are more polluted than New Orleans and the "beach" that they have at Port Fourchon (which looks like a post-apocalyptic wasteland) is new every year because it is eroding so quickly. Its really a shame that the Republicans want this everywhere.

The coastline is eroding primarily because of all our levees.  The Mississippi carries millions of tons of sediment to the Gulf each day, and prior to building the levees the river used to flood anually, spreading that sediment over the the entirety of southern Lousiana and Mississippi, slowly expanding the coast.

We've stopped that, and now the Gulf slowly eats away at our swamp land.

congrats twesterm wish you the best hard to believe that hardly anyone noticed in this thread
