Global warming.

Exactly.  As I was saying to some of my friends... MOTHER NATURE IS PISSED.  And unfortunately it will always win and it's taking out Louisiana and Cuba first apparnetly.

It isn't just global warming. Offshore drilling is really exacerbating coastline erosion in Louisiana. Have you even been to Port Fourchon or Intracoastal City? Those small towns are more polluted than New Orleans and the "beach" that they have at Port Fourchon (which looks like a post-apocalyptic wasteland) is new every year because it is eroding so quickly. Its really a shame that the Republicans want this everywhere.

The coastline is eroding primarily because of all our levees.  The Mississippi carries millions of tons of sediment to the Gulf each day, and prior to building the levees the river used to flood anually, spreading that sediment over the the entirety of southern Lousiana and Mississippi, slowly expanding the coast.

We've stopped that, and now the Gulf slowly eats away at our swamp land.
