Forums - Sales - Microsoft's Xbox price cuts are welcome, but.........

And now MS is talking about allowing installs to the hardrives and the like, HD is needed which means thats another 150 out of the customer's pocket leaving them with $350 price tag, minimum. They should have just stayed with the Premium and Elite, those are the REAL systems.

The HDD installs are optional

That was my logic with my 360.... bought a cheap core bundle.... then got the HD shipped from the US (I did get a €50 cashback with my console on a HD.... making it a €250 premium .... but that offer was not compatible with the €60 GTA4 rebate) for 60€ about.....

An HDD though is not all that usefull I found... But worth it for the demos.... I mean with it there is a good 20H of gameplay to have so it's the value of a game. and it offers additional possibilities (DLC)

Most people on here are stilling looking at there arguments from people who love gaming and in many cases is there main pass time. The fact is there are many people out there that cant and wont puy close or over 300 dollars for a gaming system plus the 60 dollar games on top. There are many people out there that want to play games like cod4 bbioshock assasins creed froza and all the other great new hd games out there but simply cant because they dont have the money or want to spend that much money on a console. The arcade is perfect for them this is the system for the people who just want to play these great new games and arnt really intarested in any of the other features the 360 offers. People keep saying "well ms is ripping you of when you add in all the extras" but the bottom line is if you want a next gen system that plays next gen games and thats all you want then you can for 199. Remember if teh reports we had on here are true and ms does bring out the 60gig hard drive bundle pack(which they have already announced for eu) for 100 dollars then it does really open up nice options for the consumer because you can get a arcade 199 save up and buy the hard drive bundle 100= 299 thats the exact same as the pro but you have done it over time instead of shelling out all that money in one go. The only diff will be you still wont have hd cables but you will have a 215mb memory card and 3months xbox live.

I'm considering getting an arcade. I don't really need a hard drive because I wouldn't connect to the internet at all (I have to be careful I have a dload limit monthly).

So I would only have game saves...

I'm considering it for the RPGs coming out on it plus at 200$ it's affordable.

The false opening price point is a key microsoft strategy. It's something they do in EVERYTHING they sell. There is always an obscenely expensive top item (Vista Ultimate, 360 Elite, Microsoft Office) and an intro item for hundreds less then the top item (Vista home basic, 360 Arcade, Microsoft Works) which people buy only to find out, lo and behold, you can't use many (sometimes any) of the features you expected.

Then suddenly when they find out only one of their computers four processors are being used and they can't expand beyond a tiny ammount of RAM and capabilities in Home Basic they have to shell out 100 dollars for home premium or 200+ dollars for a full version of Vista. The MS works user finds out almost all real functionality only comes with the 400 dollar Office suite which they need to shell out for.

Ditto with the arcade which is missing very basic features in this day and age from wireless connectivity (100 dollars) to online play (50 dollars a year) to a hard drive (100 dollars for a TINY drive. I got a 500GB hard drive for my PS3 for what an 20GB drive costs for the 360, seriously). Suddenly the 200 dollar value purchase turns into this bloated 500 dollar expense. MS more then any other company except Walmart has mastered the opening price point gimick where you make it seem cheap even though its more expensive then a better higher quality product made by someone else.

That's one thing I like and respect about Sony and Nintendo. You get a full featured console with things like wireless internet access and a complete feature set on every one you buy, there is no accessory you need to buy for full functionality just for convenience (classic controller if you never had a gamecube, Blu Ray remote ect).

MS is making buying a 360 like buying a cheap car. You come in looking for a 10k car then suddenly you found out theres no AC (900 dollars) its manual (1000 dollars) it has 1970s non power windows/doors (600 dollars) and you can't get it at the dealer without alloy wheels (2000 dollars). Suddenly the 10000 dollar car which still sucks worse then a 14,000 dollar Corolla or something costs 17,000 dollars. It's crap and I hate that they do it.

It is about choice, some people obviously do not need all of the features in the higher end versions, so why make them pay for them?  The problem you seem to have deals with the consumers.  If I am going to buy something, I am going to research and see what features it does and does not have.  The problem isn't with M$ but with the idiot consumers.  Consumers should know that with the cheaper model, something is going to be missing.  Seems quite obvious to me that if I want a cheap car, something that is in more expensive cars is going to be missing.  That would be why the price is lower.  The problem is that some people are just dumb ****s.

Why do you need a HDD? Demos, renting movies and downloadable content. That`s it.

For the Arcade games, you can save them on your memory card, delete them and download them again later.

For Live,the card will do.

For the saves, the card is all you need. So depends on what you want from the console. MS has a product for every market ->low,medium and high end. The choice is yours.

Exactly.  Choice is never a bad thing.  If people want more from something, they shouldn't be dumb ****s and buy something that doesn't have it.  But for those just interested in playing retail HD games, the arcade is a cheap perfect solution.

I don't think anyone is arguing that. I think what people are arguing, is that up to this point, the number of people who have taken the arcade choice, is 10%. We are talking about how this will effect total sales. I think the price cut in general across the board is a good thing and will raise sales, but with the arcade still being 10%.
