I wonder how many of those who are saying LBP is overhyped actually own a PS3

Well for me it would be Resistance 2, Gears of War 2, The Conduit, and basically any other sci fi shooter that is stereotypical in every fucking way. And apart from that I think everything else is pretty good if we are only talking about upcoming games.

Actually I totally agree that LBP is overhyped by some who think it's going to get 10+ million in sales.  What I disagree with is the idea that LBP is overhyped, but Conduit and Spore are not which was stated by someone above.

Let's take LBP as an example. The game is getting lots of hype from the Internet folk and the gaming media. Now, if the game comes out and gets a 90+% average in reviews, the game has justified the hype, regardless of the sales. If on the flipside it gets 70% reviews and sells millions (unlikely), it has't fulfilled the hype-o-meter, even if it sells well.

But I believe a lot of the hating on LBP is from non-PS3 owners who want to see the game fail because it is not on their console.  Comments like "the hardcore won't buy it" and "it would do better on the Wii" are different ways of saying "damn I wish my console had it, but since it doesn't, I think this game is going to fail" Because if the game is a success, then Sony has just put out a semi-innovative game that stands alone in terms of type of game on other consoles, leaving Sony deserving of praise.

People saying LBP and Spore are over hyped make me curious. Sometimes some games deserve to be over hyped and I'd say these are 2 of them. I just wish No More Heroes could have got as over hyped as those did.

I don't own a PS3, I can almost guarantee I'll NEVER own a PS3.  I don't want to see LBP fail.  The game looks great.  I just think it's overhyped.  That's it.  There's no malice when I say it's overhyped, it's just my unbiased opinion.

I think it's a difference of what is being overhyped. People overhype the sales and impact on console sales that LBP will have. But I don't think the game can possibly be overhyped as far as quality, this may change if I am disappointed by the game in a month and a half when I play it, but as far as I've seen the game has a quirky quality that deserves the hype it's gotten. It's just not going to sell 10m or double the hardware of PS3 like some claim.

for you this may be true, but for others, it is exactly what I said. It's not contained to just LBP or Sony games or whatever. It happens across all consoles by all fans. People try and marginalize what they want but cannot have.
