1 month spike, level off, then xmas spike.

==> yeah, a two spike effect

Sounds about right, the key was it should spike at chirstmas when the mom's go to buy a system for there kids and see a $200.00 xbox and say that should be good enough

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I would expect the sales of the 360 to have a nice boost since people have been putting off buying the system for the last couple of weeks waiting for this new price cut.

I went to Wal-mart Saturday night and the store had no Arcades or Elites, they had about 11pro's in the case, there was room for about 7 other 360 units. The 360 space was by far the biggest out of all the consoles. In comparison, the wii had 2-3 in stock with room for 6-8, the PS3 had one 80gb in stock with room for 3, 5 PS2's in stock with room for 6, 6-8PSP units in stock with room for about 15, there were about 40+ DS units in stock with room for up to 60+

It will probably do enough to ensure that the PS3 doesn't catch up with the 360 before the 720 is released, which I'm sure MS will use to say that "they sold more than the PS3," even if LTD sales will favor the PS3 for start to end of production.

There is a big difference in reasons that Sony/Nintendo are in the gaming industry vs. MS.

Sony/Nintendo are in it to be in the industry and sell games and hardware. MS is in the industry to monopolize the industry and get into a position where they can fix prices like they do in the OS and Office applications.

You would be wrong on two accounts... both on Sony's and Microsoft, but I'll let you google it and find out for yourself the real reason Microsoft and Sony are in this buisness.

Microsoft - Entered because they saw the next big gold mine the living room because they have been milking the office for all it's worth.  WebTV was not a successful venture in their first attempt to take the living room.

Sony - Hesitant at first to be in the gaming business because they were not a "toy company," but tried to enter as a CD add-on for SNES until they were turned down at E3.  Greenlghted the gaming business after the betrayal.  However, they wanted to be in the gaming business in some form for some time.

Nintendo - a card company that saw the gaming business as the next big thing.

Am I wrong?  I've known that for a long time.

OT:  The first couple of days of the Price cut, I wasn't seeing any systems move.  When I went to Wal-mart today, it appears that some have been selling.  The Sunday paper must have let the word out.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

In my opinion it comes down to this. the only SKU that Could have a real impact on numbers is the Srcade. Now for the most part the people that would be attracted to the $199 Arcade are the same people that would be attracted to the Wii. With the sheer demand and popularity of the Wii I seriously doubt that MS will Siphon that many buyers away from the Wii. Will there be some boost? I'd be shocked if there wasn't, but how much of a boost are we talking, and for how long? In Europe they got a Small to moderate boost that lasted less than a half a year, and in the end really didn't effect PS3 or Wii sales at all. It really does come down to Title recognition. In Europe people know names like Mario Kart and SSB. in the US people know Socom and metal gear Solid. What your average gamer doesn't know is Fable or even to some extent Gears of War (Yes Gears was popular, but it was popular to existing XBOX 360 owners) A price drop will help, but probvably not as much as 360 fanboys want to believe.

+1 for you.

I would also add that MS has maybe a secret weapon :

1- remote controller

2- arcade with 20go hard-drive

The 1- will better compete versus the wii (even if it will be very hard for them)

The 2- will make people buy arcade over premium and will then provide a very good boost
(since people will see : 20go arcade 200$ vs PS3 400$).

Time to Work !

Honestly, do you really think that out of the blue this far in the game Ms is going to cut into Wii's Maarket? on paper your arguements are valid, But paper and retail world are two very different places. First Nintendo has built a certian Aura about it in the Marketplace for this gen with the Casual Crowd. Nintendo has a long time Casual following. In the Casual world Nintendo is like those old worn in shoes you just love. They are nice and broke in and feel just right. MS has virtually ZERO History in the casual Market, and if they are truly going to Compete there they are going to have to do it from the start of a generation, not 3 years in. Even worse for them they cannot moneyhat traditional Ninty exclusives because they are all pretty much 1st party. Honestly at this point Sony has a better shot at cutting into the casual market because they at least have a history in that arena. MS is way too reliant on 3rd parties, and we all know how 3rd parties have acted towards the casual crowd.
