So people hate the game because reviewers jumped the gun and gave it amazing reviews? You lost me....

If the game got an average gamerankigns score of 9.0...there would have been no bashing?

I think you're confusing disappointment with hate.

They changed a lot of things that previous GTA players were accustomed to, although I'm sure that's not of the higher complaints on the list.

This is what I dislike in GTA4. You can agree/disagree, whatever.

1) Game moves incredibly slow, both movement in cars, walking and storyline. Basically everything. Hijacking a car, breaking a window, hotwiring it. I don't want realism, JUST GET IN THE CAR!
2) YOU HAVE TO HOLD "A" (or PS3 "X") TO RUN?! WHY!
3) They removed Ammu-nation. (Classic GTA material)
4) No customization like SA
5) No car customization
6) No sense of "power." You don't get a mansion with bodygaurds, you don't have a gang per say. You're just average-ish with a lot of money by the end of it.
7) Niko Bellic is exceptionally lame (but the supporting characters aren't! I really liked 'em)
8) Combat could have been better
9) Online is super duperly extraordinarily whack.
10) Useless garbage such as watching T.V., Cabaret Club, Internet etc etc...
11) No planes, bikes, nor jetpacks.
12) Less cars, bikes, weapons etc.
13) No memorable missions!

I think the reason for all the hate is the fact that it was a huge letdown to very many fans of the series (myself included). GTA IV categorizes with Bioshock and Crysis for me; I rolled my eyes after a little playtime and found something better to do.

The game suffers from a crazy amount of pop-ins, the framerate crashes all the time, there are too many bugs and glitches to name. There are no planes, the heli's handle like shit, they take away a crazy amount of cash when you die, you are forced to use weapon and health cheats non-stop, the cops come after you all the time, even if you do nothing.

Other times i have shot a gun off in the middle of nowhere and before i know it there are 5 cop cars and a heli flying over head. I played yesterday for 20mins and received 3 phone calls and 2 text messages. The mini games are stupid, they took away most of the great features GTA:SA had. If you enter the airport you receive 4-5 stars.

I have tripped over the sidewalk and received damage, the fighting system is broken, the camera system is broken, ever try jumping out of a boat, you will fall down about 5 times and lose about half of your heath. I have walked around for minutes on end and have not seen a single person or car, this happens all the time. I have seen people and cars appear right infront of me.

The game loses all its colour sometimes, its like playing a black and white game. You have no space for cars, good cars never appear anywhere in the game, i'm still finding cars that i have never seen before. All the missions were the same, the hiding system is useless, i never used it for any of the missions. Stupid AI, sometimes you die from falls and sometimes you don't, the map is too small.

Plus the game is not fun to play.

It just simply didn't have the memorable charactrers that GTA: Vice city had...... GTA: VC Had more charm, charisma, comedy moments and generally speaking a far more appealing sotryline, The main character (Tommy vercetti) was voiced by the awesome Roy Liotta and there were other Megastars in the game like Lee majors, Burt Reynolds, Danny Dyer and Jenny McCarthy as the memorable candy suxxx, all in all for me GTA IV didn't really have a backbone and the gameplay if anything apart from been able to hitch a cab for quicker journeys to your safehouse ect was well below par,...... and dont get me started on GTA IV's music..... horrible

GTA IV basically took all the great thing GTA : SA had (huge environments....variety in environment.....PLANES....PLANE....PLANES).....and dumped in the bin.

+ I got GTA 4 the day before METAL GEAR SOLID 4 : GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS....n the latter game overshadowed GTA 4 by miles....

I only have a problem with the UBER perfect 10s that it got from every single huge site..

it was fucking disturbing..seriously..

the game really isn't THAT good..it's not PERFECT...

everyone would have a perfect game by now..same thing for alot of other games..

INCLUDING nintendo games..Like Mario Galaxy..was good..does it deserve the score it got?

Twilight Princess? no..lower..I would give it around a 7.5

THAT is what I hate..not the game..because I played it and it's really good..even though I miss some of the features San Andreas had

The game was overhyped and under delivered. Was it a great game yes was it a 10 not even close

Because its the most bugged game of all time.

Buildings appearing and disappearing.
Boats vanishing.
Planes doing somersaults.
Buses breakdancing.
People floating in mid-air.

And yes, i have witnessed all of these events first hand
