VGChartz, publisher, and developer watermarks are ok. Even watermarks with engine names (like havoc) on them are fine.
For the most part, if it is something you would expect to find on a professional site, then it is ok. But we do not want to have images with watermarks from IGN, gamespot, 1up, PSU, etc...

@Nordlead: I was just thinking that if someone would "lend" pics from VGC database to embed on different forums, the watermark would work as a promotion.

duh, I didn't understand your first question. and now I do.
anyways, I honestly only think we should add VGChartz watermarks to images we either make ourselves (for reviews or whatever), or get exclusive images from the developer (like with The Conduit) If you copied pics from some other site and they had no marking, I see no reason to add them to the pics.

obviously you and ioi have final say, but I feel like it is wrong to take user submitted screens from gamefaqs (or wherever), post them here, and then put watermarks on them. but whatever its not like i'll complain unless we stick VGChartz watermarks over other company watermarks.
@Nordlead: That's why i asked about the ethics.
Basically it's not much different than posting pics from other sites to the database (although using the watermark would be claiming the pics being VGC:s "own"), but if people who'd be posting pics, would post a pic or two from time to time, that are taken by themselves and there would be two categories to which you can post; ones that don't have an "outside" rights and ones that are given the publishing rights to VGC, which could have the watermark.
