Kind of makes adding trophies to the PS3 pointless really when nearly all games comming out fail to support them, and the back catalogue isn't really doing much.

Sony added trophies in July.  Is it surprising that a game set for release 4 months later is not including them at launch?

90% of the games releasing in October or later support trophies...

This is the list : http://www.thesixthaxis.com/ps3-trophy-faq/

Only notable games being release in Q4 or later not supporting trophies so far are Fallout 3 and Prince of Persia..

Well they loss a sale, too bad for them.........

So many decent games releasing in Q4, trophies support is definitly going to be a factor in which I end up buying..( might still get Prince of Persia though, I kinda like the game).

I agree with this.  Both Uncharted and Warhawk are getting a lot of extra time because of the trophies.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

im still playing oblivion goty on ps3, it doesnt have trophies and my game doesnt become worse because it dont have them.

the no trophies argument will just be more straw clutching on fanboys behalf.

I think you're failing to realize just how important things like achievements and trophies can be.

For many people useless things like achievements and trophies are the deciding factors in games.  When I look at Fallout 3 for the PS3 and 360 they are going to be (or at least expected to be) nearly identical.  The only real difference on day one is one game has achievements and the other doesn't have trophies.  That little bonus is just nice for some people.

Also, things like achievements push people to play the game more.  If I can see a list of achievements or trophies I know I have something to work for.  I see if I finish the game with good karma I get something but if I finish with neutral or bad karma I get more stuff!  That drives me to play the game more.

Finally, games with easy achievements drive sales.  Do you know how many people played things like King Kong, Fight Night 3, and Avatar just because it was so easy to get points?  There are articles after articles with lists of games that are easy to get 500+ points in and people rent and buy those games just to get the points.  There have even been arcade games I've bought just because I know I can get some quick points on them.

You're really underestimating the importantance of achievements and trophies.

So you're not going to buy the PS3 version because it's missing a feature that is really only a bonus? I like achievements too, but I'm not going to completely discard buying the Wii or PS3 version of a game just because they don't have something that's completely pointless. For shame, for shame.

And the reason trophies won't be included is because Sony has done as good a job convincing developers to include them as Tom Cruise has convinced the world that he's not gay.

That bonus is important to me.  I like achievements and I like trophies because I just like those things.  I don't remember what it's called, but there are something like 5 different gamer types

Explorer

Social

Collector

Murderer

...something else I don't remember and there may actually be more, whatever.

Anyways, I'm a collector.  I love collecting things.  Achievements are great things to collect and trophies will be great to collect once I finally get some games that support them.  Open world doesn't concern me much.  I'm not a social person.  Killing things is fun but that's not why I play games.  I just like to collect things.

So while achievements or trophies may not bother you, they are a deciding factor for me just like downloadable content might be a deciding factor for someone else but not really for me (I see that as _just_ a bonus).

Fair enough. I see myself as a perfectionist, and I guess that would lend itself to the "Collector" category. I LOVE achievements, but that doesn't decide anything for me. Hell, I could buy cheap, crappy games like The Simpsons Game with incredibly easy achievements to boost my score if I wanted to. Or I could buy dozens of old, budget priced 360 games selling for 20 bucks just to boost my score, regardless of how difficult it is to get the achievements. For me, it comes down to which controller I prefer to play with, and call me crazy, but I actually prefer the Dualshock family.

Although I think you're right in your other post that people do buy games for achievements. Seems like a complete waste of money, but I won't judge.

true enough but still its a bonus, most of the people will finish it and let it rest.

its not like ps3 doesn't support them but implementing would be delay to the game.

an as its its good enough, i won't buy fallout so seriously i could care less about it getting trophies or not.

Does any game support them?

I didn't like Oblivion enough to get this game either so I guess I'm not missing anything. It's a pity that the PS3 version doesn't have Trophies, especially considering how easy it would probably have been, but it's still not my problem. It's just one reason less to support Bethesda.

Come on now Mr. James, you didn't even parody the commercial right.

Man, I was actually going to pick this one up for the PS3 too if I did end up getting it (I'm still on the fence about it). Guess I'll just get this one for the 360 then, go go achievements.

Hmmm. That reminds me of that time you decided to finally get a PSP when the 3000 model was released, but decided to axe that idea once the reports of reduced battery life surfaced. Are you going to change your mind now that the battery life is no longer reduced?
