Forums - Nintendo - IGN interview with HVS (Nintendo voice chat podcast)

Here's some big points being made in the interview with HVS on IGN, lots of good news, and clearing up some things about Wii Speak and Wii Motion +.

  • Still pre-alpha, got about 6 months left in development.
  • Single player is basically done, from now on is details, multiplayer, and polish.
  • Big publisher, says people should be happy to hear who it is.
  • IGN will get the announcement first with-in a month as soon as the legal issues are finished.
  • Certain confirmation of The Conduit 2.
  • Interactive interface where just about everything is able to be moved around the menu like health bar and ammo bar.
  • Setting their quality bar higher then even their original standards.
  • Nintendo helping HVS with LAN play, 12 player LAN already playable, 16 player at least by release, but still not official.
  • Standard deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, and trying to get a few more popular modes into online multiplayer.
  • Got 13 players online playing with realativly no lag, hoping to get 16 players online working by end of the week.
  • Want's to hit on the point that it's the control that makes The Conduit a unique experience on the Wii over something they could deliver on 360 or PS3.
  • Again the controls are close to PC style controls and the way you can customize the controls make hardcore PC gamers really happy and can still be made where new Wii players can even play the game.
  • Wii Speak and Wii Motion plus is not confirmed, they haven't got their kits yet they're waiting till late September for those to come in, they'll work those into the game as it fits in, most likely Wii Speak will be in but WM+ will have to see.
  • Still polishing the graphics and improving the graphics tech, focus becomes more clear over a target you're pointing at, more lighting improvements, though they feel things could get even better with The Conduit 2.
  • HVS will have a blog on IGN so maybe up to date posts about anything new developing on the game.

Overall the game is shaping up great, they basically said IGN would be the first place to go for new info on The Conduit, and it's great to hear that The Conduit 2 is already confirmed even though there was little doubt that it was going to happen.  I don't think there will be any lack of advertisement for this game and it could be a system seller (so Wii's will be even harder to find woo...) No doubt this game is going to hit it big in my opinion.

If anyone wants to hear the interview http://wiimovies.ign.com/wii/audio/article/907/907602/Nintendo%20Voice%20Chat%20Episode%2021.mp3 it'll start close to the last 30 minutes of the podcast.

Enjoy

  •  Big publisher, says people should be happy to hear who it is.

Well, this makes me think it will probably be EA. People would be happy to hear it is EA, because then there would be no hassle with friend codes.

Unfortunately, that most likely means no online mode for those of us in Japan (as with MOH:Heroes 2).

I'm thinking it's either EA/Nintendo/Activision though EA being the most likely suspect, cause while they're working with Nintendo if Nintendo was the publisher they could have gotten their hands on the Wii Speak/WM+ kits already. EA would be a great choice for them and the game they're making as EA doesn't really have a big shooter franchise on Wii other the MOHH2 and that game didn't sell as well as it should have. Activision is just thrown in there as it is a big publisher as well and they made the comment that they wouldn't treat The Conduit as a game that would conflict with their other series (which could mean CoD WaW or maybe MOHH2) and said they would give The Conduit everything it needed IE advertisement and publishers benefits.

to me that comes across as nintendo being the publisher.. oh wells.. as long as they release a worthwhile copy in australia, i don't really care who publishes it

"Setting their quality bar higher then even their original standards."

This wouldnt be very hard as even HV cant see that their game looks nowhere near as good as MP3.

I am very much interested in this game, its just that if people cant see the quality of the graphics they have they shouldnt be focusing on them as a selling point.

Well that's mostly talking about their quality of controls, gameplay, and value.  In the interview they were asking them how has all the publicity affected them and they basically said they wanted to make a high quality game for the core players out there and with all the publicity it's put a lot of pressure on them to set their already high standards higher.

I know MP3 looks better at the moment mostly due to the art direction of the game itself but really The Conduit has 6 months of development ahead they details are not yet put into the games graphics so it's one of those "hold on" periods before you judge the graphics it's not as if the game is coming out in about 2 months.  Like the other points I put in they're basically done with the single player game the rest is going to be the details and multiplayer, and details mean touching up on framerate, textures, environments, visual effects.  Just give this game about 3 months and if they release some videos on it then it would be time to start seeing how it stacks up to a game like MP3.  (remember also that MP3 was looking really gamecube quality until about 3 months before release)

I think that means it's probably either Nintendo or EA.  Certainly isn't Ubisoft because no Wii owner would be happy to hear that.

Yeah, my first thought was EA, not even Nintendo. I hope it's one of the 3 too (Activision included). I really hope it's not Ubisoft.

Funny, as much as I like to see them doing it, UT has been doing it for a while now and looks like no one follows their example.

I can't wait to finally see and play the final product. Go HVS!
