Forums - Nintendo - Sony does what Nintendon't!

Really, the only thing Sony does that Nintendon't is make poor investment decisions. Though that almost goes without saying, as pretty much EVERY business makes worse investment decisions than Nintendo. Seriously, I've never seen any company as over-cautious as Nintendo. Even when they "lose", they still win. Dr. Doom would be jealous of their ability to turn anything to their advantage. And to Sony's credit, I've seen many that make far worse investment choices than they do.

How does Nintendo win even if they lose? I mean no disrespect to Nintendo but after the 64 gen and the GC gen if they weren't on top this gen I think NIntendo might have ended up like Sega.

Actually there is a chart showing Nintendo making more then Sony did during the PS2 era.  I believe.... it was either that or Nintendo made almost as much money.

What? Nintendo always made a profit from the N64 and GCN so why would they go the way of Sega and go software exclusive? Their consoles always made them bucketloads of cash.

Ok so this is the first gen where Sony isn't turning profit. However Nintendo is where they are (and let's be real about this) mostly because of price which isn't neccessarily a bad thing - it is what it is. However Sony is the only company to date that has ever dominated the market like it did multiple times - remember the OP is talking about things Nintendo doesn't do. They have never dominated console generation(s) like Sony. To be fair to Nintendo though they DID do something that NOBODY has or IMO will ever do (not even Sony with the PSP) , Nintendo has the handheld market in their back pocket easily so in a way I guess you are very right, plus like you said Nintendo aint losin money and as a hardcore Sony fan I will be the first to admit it that Sony has screwed itself this gen while Nintendo is destroying everyone so much props to Nintendo. And truth be told, had Sony not come along I'd still be a hardcore Nintendo fan.

NES and SNES?  You know.... aside from Wii...

if you want soemthing Sony does that Nintendo doesn't... how about making TVs?

The answer is simple: Nintendo sells every hardware very fast, without giving free software.

Sony NEEDS to give free games to atract more people.

My name is SuperChunk and I approve of this post.

Here are the profit totals for gaming in the last decade. Keep in mind that Nintendo is net income while Sony and MS are in operating profit. If the operating profit for Nintendo was listed, the gap would most likely be substantially larger.

The facts speak for themselves.

That's pretty much it. Nintendo has little reason at this point to be doing major bundles with 3rd party software. In many cases, there's little reason to do it with first party software. Still, there have been a few bundles for the DS including Nintendogs, Zelda, and Guitar Hero. I think there was one or two others as well.

Now that's interesting. Going off of that data, Nintendo has made about as much in the last 10 years as Microsoft and Sony have lost combined on their unprofitable years. Certainly that data reinforces the fact that Nintendo does not take financial risks in the same way that Sony and MS do.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I don't think we'll see any Wii bundles any time soon.

Don't forget the PS3/Spider-man 3 Blu-ray player bundle. That's something the Wii or 360 can never do. Well maybe the 360 can do a 360/DVD movie bundle. No, that would be retarted.

Is it still considered third party if it's a Sony film that's used in the bundle?

Well, there is a 3 in it........and I suppose it was Peter Parker's party, since he danced (wtf were they thinking, making Spiderman dance).
