Major Nelson announced that the price cuts for the Xbox 360 we reported on two weeks ago will be official as of Sept. 5. The new prices for the console are:

Xbox 360 Arcade - $199
Xbox 360 60GB - $299
Xbox 360 Elite - $399

This means that the Elite and 60GB received a $50 price drop, while the Arcade received an $80 cut. Now we wait to see if the new prices help boost the Xbox 360's slouching sales.

That'll be cool--I can honestly see a well-advertised cut increasing sales by 40-50k, while decreasing PS3 sales ever so slightly by about 5-7k.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

It's still September 7th. Just because MS says they've dropped the price doesn't mean stores are selling it for less....'Till Sept. 7th rolls around, and the new ads come into effect.

It'll be interesting to read the various anecdotal reports through next week. I wonder how bad the next 2 weeks will be for the X360 in the US, though?

Again anecdotal reports? Did we learn some thing from last NPD? I hope this time VGC is little carefull because PS3 80gb just launched recently.

Bad as in good I hope you mean. $199 Arcade is going to sell like hotcakes. These new price points are going to push a lot of hardware this fall.

If Major Nelson says the 5th then most likely at least online will start selling it at that price this Friday. We shall see in store or not.
