Capcom: PS3 in "full swing"

Success of Metal Gear Solid 4 praised alongside future line-up

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/

Capcom has released a transcript of a conference call it held for the firm's Q1 results. The first question asks whether PS3's install base is yet big enough for the release of a whopper like Resident Evil 5.

"We believe that PS3 has finally reached full swing after looking at the success of Metal Gear Solid 4, as well as future large-scale title line-ups," reads the response. "In addition, some reduction in the PS3's price was announced at the 2008 E3, and we can expect its spread to increase by next March when our Resident Evil 5 for PS3 will be released.

"Moreover, as we are not only focusing on PS3, we would also like to spread our supply of software evenly between Wii and Xbox 360 while their markets in the world increase in a similar manner to PS3."

And can a new Resident Evil stand out in an overcrowded horror-action genre? "The Resident Evil series has strong brand power and a special game concept, which builds a new view of the world that you can't find in any other games.

"Capcom is not all that concerned about competition with distribution titles, since the quality of our Resident Evil 5 is also being enhanced. Rather, we are at the stage of devising strategies to expand its sales further."

But what about the firm's stance on games come movies? "The company does not intend to bear any risk in the movie business, so we will basically develop the business through licensing, recording royalty fees as profits.

"However, as with Street Fighter, we may partially finance the projects. Our strategy is to increase sales and gain recognition for our game software through the synergistic effects of advertising and promotion achieved by releasing game software together with movies."

end of 2008 will be great for ps3, and going into 2009 will only get better, i predict even with a higher price point the ps3 will be the console of choice for the consumer as it offers everything you need str8 out of the box.

What a stupid question for a multi-platform game.

"The company does not intend to bear any risk in the movie business"
"However, as with Street Fighter, we may partially finance the projects"

Also known as 'The company does not intend to bear any risk in the movie business except at the times when we do bear such risks'.....

LOL....nice contradiction there

Nice once Capcom....Resident Evil 5 should be great (now its got past the racism issues)

And the lower the price the better i say (for the PS3)

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

So by saying "PS3 has reached full swing" you are implying it is finaly going to get the games Xbox360 is getting? Sure seems like it... All this article states is that ps3 is profitable to develop for.

Why is this even a question?  The PS3 will have sold more than the GC (when RE4 came out) by the time RE5 rolls around, and it is going to be multi-platform from day one.

And you think that Resi Evil 4 and 5 had similar sized budgets?
