Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft wants to get their "foot in the door" in Japan...

So I hear it alot that MS wants to get their "foot in the door" in Japan.  What exactly classifies as "getting their foot in the door?"

My Opinion:  Obviously, the Xbox 360 probably won't have to same success this generation as the Wii, DS, PS2, or PSP.  They are doing better than they did last generation with the original Xbox, and that is clearly a sign of progress.  However, I think they should make it a goal to sell within the range of a normal losing console in Japan - PS3, Gamecube, N64, etc.  If they can end the generation maintaining at least 6k per week on average, I would say they have at least made a presence in their society.  The last 2-3 months, they have been able to maintain 4-5k per week on normal weeks, which is much better than the 1-2k they have been doing previously. The upcoming price cut and continued jRPG releases may get them to be within the region the PS3 and GC were selling.

So what are your thoughts?

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Very taboo to wear shoes indoors in Japan :)

It's not going to happen. At least not in this generation.

The fact that they keep buying up RPGs and that the 360 was already cheap in Japan compared to other regions says that their is something inheritantly wrong with the console or the library in the eyes of Japanese gamers for it to still see abysmal sales. This is not something a price cut and a couple of RPGs are going to change.

Tag - "No trolling on my watch!"

I don't think it will get too GC 4m but the 360 should sell between 1.5m to 2m in Japan which should be enough for M$ to consider it a "foot in the door" IMO.

if the ps3 sales don't move up in japan then there is a little chance u right
ps3 has not offered half what 360 offered to japanese and still it's double the slaes

That sounds painfull.
