Forums - Gaming - Bionic Commando Rearmed opinions

Hey...I just wanted to know what the opinions of this game is.

I got it after reading the 9.4 review on IGN without even trying out the demo and thus far I am not really impressed. The game has some bright spots but feels very choppy due to constant switching of gameplay. It seems like you get to play a walk and gun level for 2 mins, then it becomes a puzzle game with a ball in a giant square. After which you get an overhead level for 1 minute. After that its training stages for a bit... the game doesn't have flow at all. Those training stages are the best IMO actually...its sad when the best part of the game are training stages.

What am I missing here? I love old school games but this game doesn't seem good at all to me despite the great reviews. Can you tell me what it is you find enjoyable in this game?

Compared to recent XBL offerings (geometry wars 2, Braid, Galaga Legions, Castle Crashers) this game seems like a waste of money to me.

It just sounds like you don't like it and there's no real good explanation why. I played a bit of it, and loved it. The music, the graphics, the mechanics, the sense of humor, brilliant.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

I loved it, but I also played the hell out of the original nes game.

Humor is great I agree. Had the game got 7-8/10 from most publications I would have not asked...but since it got such high review scores I figured that I'm missing something. I think there may have been a lot of fans from the NES era who may have rated this game a bit higher than normal...

9.4 eh.....that does sound weirdly high. Seems like IGN have been giving alot of downloadable games high reviews lately. I'm still not sure what they were thinking with giving The Last Guy a 9.....I haven't tried the full game, but the demo just didn't leave me with that impression.

edit: it just strikes me as weird that all of the latest downloadable games thay have reviewed have gotten 9's.  Perhaps those are just the ones I am noticing though.

First I don't like it too, but after the first few hour I start to enjoy it.

Yeah, however Geometry wars 2 Braid and Castle Crashers deserve 9s in my opinion. All 3 games suck you in from the first moment and you don't want to play anything else until you're finished.

I played a game on PSN called The Last Guy this weekend and that too looked quite fun. I'd have to spend more time with it to see if it deserves a 9 but I don't think it wasn't justified. The only game that has my head scratching is BC:Rearmed. the game honestly feels like a sandbox attempt at a 2D classig game.

Yeah, the nostalgia definitely has a lot to do with the high scores. But I think the scores also have to do with what the reviewers are comparing it to. If this game had been a straight port on Virtual Console or Live Arcade, it would've cost about $5 and been received okay. But for a little more money, you're getting quite an updated experience that kinda makes you rethink buying the retro classics. 9.4 doesn't mean it's as good as Gears or something. It just means it's one of the best retro experiences for the money. At least that's how I see it.

Well perhaps it's just a sign of downloadable games actually increasing in quality as well as a weird coincidence getting so many quality downloadable games around the same time. Just struck me as weird when I saw all the scores coming in, but I haven't played any but The Last Guy, so I can't say they're wrong. It sounds like they were dead on for most.

I think downloadable games are getting better and better.  The Last Guy is pretty unique and it's pretty fun as well.  However, PJ Monsters is number 1 for me.  It's the one and only game my wife has ever played.  Not only does she play it, she obsesses over it and plays for hours at a time.

She could never understand why when she asked me to do something, while I was playing a game, I would often respond that I just needed a couple more minutes to finish something before I quit.  Now she uses that line on me all of the time when she's trying to ace a level..  Now, when I say I need a minute or two, she gets it and usually cuts me the slack I asked for.  For that, I am pledging my devotion to PJ Monsters for all time.
