Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft comments on Gears of War 2 debacle

I like how Gears 2 is a "debacle", but PS3 console exclusives are "good business".

Gears of War 2 is based on the Unreal Engine, technically it makes sense to port such a game to the PC and PS3. With regard to PS3 exclusives it usually makes good technical sense to develop a game exclusively to take full advantage of the Cell processor (8 processor setup), Blu-Ray disc (25GB - 50 GB of storage) and a default harddrice (for caching, in comparison to the 360).

I think Gears 2 will hit the PC eventually, but not until Microsoft thinks they took maximum advantage of potential PC gamers buying a 360 mainly to play this game.

I think that Epic might be aiming for a trilogy on this gen on consoles, so they are skipping a PC version to release faster. Then again, Gears 3 as a launch game on the 720 would be good...

Consoles Owned: XBOX 360, Wii, DS and PSP.

Meh, it's better on the 360 anyways. Playing on couch in front of my TV is always better than playing hunched over in my desk chair on a half the size monitor.

I agree with those advantages and I would add the uniform/wireless game controller.

, but overall I would still prefer to play most games on a PC due to the 360's hardware issues, playing off the harddrive generating far less noise, more impressive visuals (/maybe added content like the Boss you can fight on the PC version of the original game), non-subscription free online gameplay, etc.

That's you're opinion of course, but I don't see how that makes it 'better' on the 360.

no PC version = no sale for me

Hopefully it gets ported over

So much for Microsoft's "PC Alliance"

I wish an operating system from a company that isn't heavily invested in home consoles would suddenly appear. Google? Apple? Anyone?

Microsoft is fighting itself, dragging users away from PC's to its console, hurting sales of Vista but picking up sales of 360. It's a messy plan.

because you really think people will by an XBox instead of a PC ??? or buy an XB and a PC with a different OS than vista ??? I highly doubt it.... the worst would be delaying the purchase but ultimately it will be the same...

My chair is way more comfortable than my couch could ever be, sometimes its worth spending a few extra bucks on a desk chair.

I agree. Not to mention I'll have played it a year earlier than my PC bretheren, and had local co-op with my brother, which is just way better than anything else you an do with the game, lol. He's quite a character.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

Local Co-op makes it better, hands down.

This game is one of the only shooters that actually lends itself to being played with a partner.

There are plenty of discernable advantages and disadvantages from PC to 360. However, if you'd ever played a local co-op through gears 1, you'd know that it can easily make the game much better, and increase the replay value.

Of course this is arguable.

The people who have done it will argue that it's the best.

The people who have never done it will argue that it's insignificant.

However, nobody that's played through Gears with local co-op is gonna wanna remove that feature. It's just too great.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Like Microsoft would come out and say, "don't buy a 360 to play GoW 2, wait until it comes out on PC"...

They may or may not do GoW 2 for the PC... To talk about it now is a waste of a thread as there is no way Microsoft will admit it right now even if they were.
