Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil 5 to get 'Gears-like' Controls.

I don't think he means that the game will have a cover system, even though the article seems to assume that. I think it probably means that you will run around with the left analog stick, control the camera with the right, pull the left trigger to aim, and pull the right trigger while aiming to shoot. While aiming/shooting, you will probably move considerably slower. And that sounds like a great control scheme, though it reminds me a little more of MGS4's controls than Gears of Wars. I doubt RE4 will let you run and shoot, but force you to go into aiming mode to shoot. That way, it still retains a lot of the tension of being "vulnerable" while aiming and shooting, but not limit you to being a sitting duck.

But I really hope that they include the ability to change which shoulder you are aiming over. Pissed me off in Gears of War that I was always looking over the right shoulder.

RE4 Wii controls were plain awesome, but turning RE5 into game like GoW is a bit risky,it might turn out good, but for many Re4 wasn't true RE experience, RE5 is goin even further, are we going to see an Action game without classic RE elements? Still would love it to come out on the Wii since RE i one of my favourite series.

So when people say RE4 controls which ones are they referring to? The ones on the non-Wii consoles were really good, but once I replayed it on my Wii, dear god, if I could turn my camera by just pointing at the edges, a la MP3, then those would have been the absolutely best controls in an RE games since.... ever. I really hope they don't mess up the RE games just as they reached such a great pinnacle.

The only thing that can save resident evil 5 now for me is if they confirm that Albert Wesker is in the game......... as for the controls, I love gears of war but Resident evil 4's controls were fine as they were, Stop tampering capcom tut tut tut

Oh, man! Why are they doing that? To be honest I didn´t really like Gears´s system. Why is RE going down that road?

Why do you need to cover from zombie´s?

Kinda off topic, but did anyone else HATE the knife in RE4? Being unable to move while shooting makes sense and was a good design choice, but if i'm still trying to figure out what prevented leon from moving and swinging his knife at the same time.

Oh God, Capcom, just go ahead and put the last nail in Resident Evil's coffin. I'm pretty sure that RE5 is gonna get rave reviews and be praised as GOTY 2009 contender and blah blah blah, but that's just horrible, going completely away from the franchise like that is not a good idea IMO. I still say that they shouldve created a new franchise, cuz I'm pretty sure that they couldve completely made a new franchise with the way RE4 is instead of calling it Resident Evil just to get people that are familiar with the name to go out and buy it.....Capcom really does hate their fans.

Edit: 2 player online Co-Op, duck and cover system, (if it is like RE4) a plethora of ammo everywhere u turn.... Can RE still be considered a "survival horror" now? I think not.

Man now Capcom is becoming a Sony FGS be creative Capcom!

They'd almost never reveal if Wesker was in the game because, no matter what, any mention of Wesker is grounds for a nasty spoiler.

Oh for crappy. So, now, RE5 will play just like the standard military-based shooter. Fucking great. Why not just call it Gears of Evil and remove it from the RE timeline altogether?

They're gradually turning my survival horror franchise into just another military shooter. Next thing you know, they'll incorporate squad tactics and finish ruining the series.

I'm hoping they'll somehow figure out how to make this feel survival horroresque, but I keep trying to imagine where in RE4 I'd need to be ducking and covering behind anything and I just can't place the tactic anywhere. Part of the tension of the game was that you couldn't cover easily: you had to defend yourself with your guns or you were fucked. That's what made the game so freaky.

Sigh...I guess I'll go back to hoping the RE2 Wiimake with RE4 controls is real...

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks
