Forums - Gaming - Resident Evil 5 to get 'Gears-like' Controls.

Sounds like I'm in the minority here (again...) but I absolutely think ANYTHING would be an improvement over the current controls.

I understand those who don't want to make this a third person shooter a la Gears, but I'm not sure how "Stop and stand still in the middle of a room with on-rushing zombies" to fire, is better than "Stop behind cover (on-rushing zombies, etc) and fire". Heck I'd be happy if the characters in RE learned that they could actually MOVE while firing.

That being said, I'm not hating on RE, just think that the controls were old early on and since then (Code Veronica onward maybe?) they have been good examples of the phrase "flawed masterpiece".

Gears 1 felt like it had Re4 like controlls...........
Am guessing calling it RE4 with cover just didn't work for capcom then....

4 ≈ One

I don't know if I like this. Part of the tension of RE is that you're somewhat vulnerable while shooting. I appreciate the huge leaps they made in gameplay with 4 but going to a Gears-style cover system doesn't seem right for the franchise.

On the other hand, it's nice to see Japanese developers finally embrace the vastly superior control systems from Western-developed games (MGS4, RE4) and realizing that to make a game intense, you don't need to force an archaic control scheme on the player that makes them want to throw their controller.

Come on news for a Wii edition. I found the wiimote targeting system far far bterr than the analog stick aim. Then again this is coming from a PC fan that's used to a mouse.

Oh for crappy. So, now, RE5 will play just like the standard military-based shooter. Fucking great. Why not just call it Gears of Evil and remove it from the RE timeline altogether?

They're gradually turning my survival horror franchise into just another military shooter. Next thing you know, they'll incorporate squad tactics and finish ruining the series.

Capcom just lost their uniqueness, and are killing a great franchise. First an on-rails shooter, now a shooter.

Good thing other devs are trying harder, Capcom copies what's popular.

To be fair, Capcom has been churning out Resident Evil rails shooters since, I think, the PS1--so Umbrella Chronicles wasn't exactly anything new.  What made it special was that it finally centered on the main series rather than being side stories like the Survivor series.  Also, RE:UC is actually a pretty good game for a rails shooter.

@Resident Hazard: Hmm the FPS games I think they were the Surivior ones were better than the on rail ones like Dead Aim. Maybe I'm mixing up the names, but I liked RE were you actually had to run or escape to save your life, not just mindless shoot.
