They want a PS3,
not because of BR
not because of HD
not even because amazing game, that for an important part, can be found on the Xbox360
They want PS3 because of the Sony's hype.
Hype is everything. Absolutely ervything for Sony.

Yes we complain about Nintendo releasing sequels because they have like 1billion Mario games and a billion Zelda games and about 1million Metroid games. Nintendo need to make a new franchise and give the old ones a rest or revamp Pikmin that was an amazing game why did they stop making them?
End of 2014 Hardware Predictions (03/03/14)
PlayStation 4: 12-15million
Xbox One: 7-10 million
Wii U: 8-9 million (Changed 01/04/2014 from 7-9 --> 8-9 million)

I wanted a PS3 because of BR, HD, and the fact that it's not MS. Cry all you want about adaptive generation and compression, but you're going to use up precious processing cycles doing this when you have a perfectly legitimate disc format that can fit all the content you want for today's software and tomorrow's. With whose two technologies, your trading load times for uncompression or generation times. IMHO, MS failed when they didn't put HDDVD or BluRay in the 360.
As far as HD, I wanted a game console to go with my HD TV. I wanted something that was going to show me what my TV could do. The Wii was not an option here.
Continue believing that people are sheep and you too become a sheep. Read the facts, look at the data. Gaming is getting bigger. Games today take up way more space than they did before (even last year) and HD TVs WILL be replacing your standard definition sets. The US Government, for one, has put aside "coupon" money to grant people that have to replace their old SD sets when SD broadcasts stop in the next few years.
The only "hype" I see is all the people buying into the Wii. It's bandwagon mentality at it's best. It's selling to a vast number of gamers looking at it's low cost and expecting the console to take off simply because it has quantity over quality. Yes, I've played it, and I hated it. The visuals were all distorted and crappy on my 52" TV. The animations were cartoony and corny. The games are nothing more than "mini" and simple. There were no vast worlds to explore, besides Zelda, and even then I was terribly unimpressed by the linearity, no camera control and several other things I'm not even going to get into as it's not on topic.
For me, the PS3 is the only platform that meets my needs. It had nothing to do with Sony hype.
It seems the mods need help with this forum. I have zero tolerance for trolling, platform criticism (Rule 4), and poster bad-mouthing (Rule 3.4) and you will be reported.

Well that was completely off-topic lol
Dear andir,
I dont want to flame but some points about the present time :
- mass market dont care of HD
- mass market dont care of BR
- mass market love the "hype"
yes, wii is selling because of the hype and mini price
but PS2 has done it too, killing dreamcast BEFORE PS2 was out
and, I predict, PS3 will do it too,
If Sony hype was really unexistant, then Sony console would not have reached 3.7 M worldwide sales with a 600$ price, no amazing game and a BR that nobody, except some little customers nichs, wants.
(just check PS3 sales in europe, it is just insane for microsoft)
You may like HD and BR but I dont think you represent the average customers.

And your comment was? Seriously, the thread is talking about the PS3 being #1 on Amazon. Someone posted that they thought the only reason was for hype and I posted my reasons. How is that off topic? Or are you getting some hard-on by stalking my posts and trying to make degrading remarks about me or my thoughts?

I think that may have something to do with the fact that they wanted to release it early, and below $600 in price in order to have any chance to win this war. HD formats seem to be more suitable for next-gen than current-gen (in which current-gen is the Wii, 360 and PS3).

i like the ps3 but is to soon to talk about of a victory of Sony and the rebirth of the playstation brand, if the ps3 is number one in sales in amazon or in the retailers in this days, is normal because launch, price drop, or launch of big games push any system to have big sales in some days, but the numbers down later, we have to wait a month or two to view in the weekly numbers of the ps3 if the price drop is a very big push for the system for ever or if this price drop only give a sony a extraordinary days and later the numbers down.

I just didn't see that rant producing info about anything related to the thread subject, seems quite simple to understand right =)
