The problem is, not many of the games are going to be big sellers. It is a shame, but artistic style can actually restrict how much a game sells. Look at Okami, if it had realistic graphics I am sure it would have sold a lot better.

By the way, what game is the 3rd and 4th screenshot from? It looks fantastic.

A lot of those artistic games don't sell because of marketing or lack thereof.  Why is realism a big deal for these gamers?

Don't underestimate the close-minded stupidity that defines too many Nintendo fans--you know, those guys that by crappy Nintendo games before they'll ever care abotu high quality 3rd party stuff.

They do more harm than good.

Around the Network

What am I looking at?

A bunch of Okay looking games?

:/

What's with the Street Fighter screenshots. Something I don't know?

It's Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.

It surprisingly looks awesome for a fighter X_X

Oh shit, I didn't even notice that.  I scrolled down and only passably thought to myself, "Why is Street Fighter IV being used as proof that artistic can work on Wii...?"

Now that I look at it again, I realize how obvious it is that this isn't SFIV.  Ha, whoops.

you have to understand something Soriku

making awesome realistic graphics is easy..anyone can do it it takes no talent to copy stuff that already exists..

making something artistic...giving it a distinct look..takes alot of talent..

Nintendo noticed that this industry lacks talent...look at all the gray and brown games..

that's also why they made the Wii and DS:
top prove that realism isn't the way of the future..anyone can do it..

let creativity flow..that makes truly fun games ^_^

Graphics whore.

Are you calling me a graphics whore? Didn't you read my post properly. Not once did I say that I prefer realistic graphics over artistic style. I even said that its a shame that artistic style can reduce the sales of a game. I also said that Kizuna looked fantastic. Not because of how graphically powerful it is (because it isn't), but because of the nice art direction.

My most anticipated titles for the rest of the year are, LBP, Valkyria Chronicles, Mirrors Edge and Prince of Persia. Each have a very individual and original art style. None of them are trying to be graphical masterpieces like Killzone 2 or MGS4.

You couldn't be more wrong by calling me a graphics whore.

Graphics whoring isn't about personal preference. It's about the belief that more detailed graphics are inherently better, and claiming a game would sell better due to more realistic graphics, without any proof, falls under that definition.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
