lol I can get to level 99 in world 1-1.

This game had more items to collect than the previous paper Marios. in that regard, i consider it superior.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the best Zelda title ever made.

mario rpg was fun because it was with mario and had some isometric 3D stuff and a comic aproach (well from what I remember of it at least).... but if you already played paper mario all that may not be as new so not as fun^^

In any case, when I played it (10 years ago) it felt like a good surprise but still a notch below FF6 chrono and mana

It is Rol word. So even if I disagree I respect his opinion. I enjoyed SPM gameplay more than PM TYD (blasphemy I know). Maybe he was expecting too much from SMRPG (internet hype can kill any game) or the game didn`t age well.

So what is the biggest issues you got with SMRPG? Plot, battle system, gameplay, looks ...

The biggest issue are the collectibles, as annoying as if SMRPG were a Square game...

I generally always look up gamefaqs after beating games and what I read about SMRPG wasn't pleasant. Invisible item boxes, 100 super jumps and win "look the other way" 100 times are simply stupid sidequests. Regarding the gameplay I found the difficulty to be quite unbalanced at times. A lot of bosses are easy, others have randomness to them and were pretty tough. The battle system also lacks depth, because each character is limited to a handful of attacks.

The minigames in the game are typical Square, some of them you just wish they wouldn't exist and the acceptable ones are also only good for at most two or three times. The graphics are nice, but sometimes it's unclear where exactly in space a certain platform is, making some jumps frustrating. Overall, SMRPG is a pretty basic RPG without any real surprises. Worst of all, Bowser doesn't burn in a river of lava at the end of the game.

Well I agree with almost every point. I missed one early invisible item box and guess what? In SE games if you miss a item early in the game you will only realize it was a miss forever item once you are 25+ hours in it. So I got a file with everything but a invisible item box. I also hate those minigames in SE games because most of them are unpolished, hard and pointless. Usually they require an absurd mix of luck and quick reflexes for lame rewards (or an useless item you need to make a complete file).

The platforming isn`t that accurate I agree. But overall I enjoyed the game a lot. Timing your attacks for critical hits is better than mashing X or A while you read a book (like in most RPGs). The plot was light hearted and silly like every Mario game (I love this also). The dialogue was interesting and funny (I love those visual jokes). For me it was a fresh approach (at the time) on the not so diverse RPG genre.

I would take SMRPG over any turn based RPG released in the last decade (save for DQ8).

I've been trying to do this last year, but I didn't quite manage it. I collected everything, but I assumed the maximum level of Mario would be reached at 9.999.999 points, because there are only seven digits shown in this game, so I took my time. Well, it turned out that another digit gets added once you reach ten million points and it's still a long way to reach the maximum level 99. It takes about 25 million points. In the end my file clocked in at high 19 hours with the level somewhere in the 60s.

So after finishing Super Mario RPG recently (the game was not as good as I expected), I decided to give Super Paper Mario another try. After about five hours in, I am fairly confident that I can do it in less than 20 hours this time. Now you may ask yourself why I even made this thread, besides my huge ego of course.

I want everyone to know that Super Paper Mario is a better game than Super Mario RPG which was a letdown. Feel free to discuss either point of this thread or just post your usual anti Austria stuff.

I dont understand at all how Super Paper Mario > Super Mario RPG, except graphically. I just dont.

I mean for god's sake, Super Mario RPG had Geno, who is just about the most badass character in any Mario game, ever.
