there are additional sources noted on the site, which give more detailed information.

Although not due until May 18th, the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, gave birth to her fifth child today, Friday, April 18th, at 6:30 am. Trig Paxson Van Palin weighed in at 6 lbs, 2 oz when he was born at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Trig is a Norse word meaning "true" and "brave victory." The name is in honor of his great uncle, a Bristol Bay fisherman, while the name Paxson comes from the well-known snowmobiling area in Alaska, which Sarah and husband Todd Palin love.

Sarah, 44, had her water unexpectedly break (just a slow leak of amniotic fluid, she shared) while attending an energy conference in Texas, but checked in with her doctor, was able to stay, deliver a 30 minute speech, and then get on a plane to return to her home state in time for the delivery (which ended up needing to be induced) early this morning.

I am not a glutton for pain and punishment. I would have never wanted to travel had I been fully engaged in labor.  After four kids I knew what labor felt like, and I wasn't in labor.

Sarah said that while she did not tell the pilot or flight attendants that she was 36 weeks along, she did not hide her condition either

The family initially released a statement saying that Trig has "special challenges," but did not specify what they are. However, on Monday, April 21st, they said the baby has Down Syndrom. Sarah and Todd's statement reads,

Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives. We have faith that every baby is created for good purpose and has potential to make this world a better place. We are truly blessed.

On Monday, Sarah shared that she "initially felt sad" when hearing the diagnosis.

When we first heard, it was kind of confusing. It was very, very challenging. [But now,] it just feels like he fits perfectly. He is supposed to be here with us.

The pregnancy was announced in March. Trig joins siblings Track, 18, Bristol, 17, Willow, 13, and Piper, 7. Sarah said she does not plan to take a maternity leave, but is breastfeeding, will bring her son to work with her, and plans to take some days of for his pediatrician appointments

so it would seem her doctor doesnt think she would be a "negligent fucktard"

I guess this settles it. Of course those who want her to be an evil neglectful mother are still going to have issues. But the woman is still clean : )

Isn't it funny that those with character always seem to be so clean? In other words you can count on the fact they made the right choices.

What doctor in their right mind would tell a women whose water had already broken that it was OK to take an 8-hour flight?  Not one I would ever go to.

 right on q

I'm too lazy to carefully read the OP and link; I don't suppose anyone could and would sum it up easily for me?

Why is choosing to endanger your own life and your child's life the "right choice"?  Is it really that hard to just say, "Hmmmm, maybe I should have the child while I am out of town because I might go into FUCKING LABOR on an 8-hour plane ride."

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. yeah...some doctors can be a bit odd..... i had a friend whos doctor told her it is was good to have a glass of wine everyday when she was pregnant.

but do you have a link to a site about what problems or dangers that could have? because i havent been able to find one and the airline said it would have been able to provide assistance should she have gone to deliver in flight.

Why does that immediately settle it? You mean you hear one argument, immediately discount it, hear another, and immediately accept it?

I still think she's nuts. Either her doctor's nuts or she's nuts or both.

Still no explanation for her daughter having 5-8 months of mono so she's too sick to go to school, even though she's not too sick to drive around and have 1 car accident and 2 other tickets during the same period. Bristol was driving everywhere and not going to school.

just give it up. she is actually a GOOD woman. I know that is rare in politics. Try digging through McCains past I am sure he alot more to hide than she does.

It just pisses me off when the under privledge of the world try to take down people who have earned their success. Yes, it pisses me off when people do it to Obama also, so don't go there.

Wow, I knew the far left would come up with smears against Palin, but this just takes the cake. What a ridiculous Internet-rumor hit job.

BTW, everyone with half a brain knows that anything originating on DailyKos is most likely to be incredibly biased if not outright false. Next you'll shock us with corroborating "evidence" from Democratic Underground or Huffington Post. Please.

Every site I've seen says that if you go into labor in the sky they have an emergency landing, which is why you warn them before you get on the plane, so they can keep that in mind and keep track of where good emergency landing sites are.

And there's still no explanation as to why she didn't let anybody know she was pregnant for the first 7 months. Why would anybody do that, especially a governor?

Did you listen to a word you just said in your second paragraph?  Do you think any woman in their right mind would ever consider giving birth, the most painful thing a woman will ever do, in flight? Don't you think some light would go off in their head that it was a bad idea?

Do we really need to poll any doctors asking them whether or not it is a good idea to deliver a baby on an airplane?  What if she starts losing massive amounts of blood or they have to perform a cesarian section?  I know I would like to have that happen on an airplane, where you have no access to anything except the most rudimentary medical supplies.

My mom has to take a Xanax just to fly on an airplane normally.  You want me to call her up and ask her if she thinks it would be a good idea to deliver a child while IN A FUCKING PLANE?
