Where in my post did I suggest that people should join in using the word 'fanboy'? The point I was making was that its use would be less widespread if some people didn't set out to be antagonistic. |
I quoted the wrong person, you never said anything like that.

People who did some mighty fine work in the OP end up having their thread destroyed because one guy states some absurbity, calling everyone who disagrees with him for a fanboy. Now, I don't think he should be banned. That's not the type of site we want. We should stop quoting the guy who said it, as that only fires up the conversation, and we should stop throwing out the word fanboy - every page now has the word fanboy written 5-15 times Sorry for sounding so belearning |
A Fanboy or Fangirl is someone who is a fanatic and ties themselves to one brand (Whether in good or bad circumstances). I'll use the term when i'm good and ready. They even put the term in the dictionary for christ's sake.
But it is one of the most annoying words to be called. It being in the dictionary doesn't change that. I've seen you throw out the word (against me twice, once for being a MS fanboy) to people who definately don't deserve to be called it.
Tell them why they are wrong if that's what you feel, not just that they are wrong.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS
Ok then.. I'll call them Sony Jr. or MS Jr. or Ninty Jr.....
:S
Thing is... Flinging that word like an uncooked hot dog is unpleasant.... We need to stop using words without thinking. :S
Not that I throw the term around myself (that I'm aware of)... but half the issue is if certain folks refrained from being overenthusiastic with their opinions and resistant to logic (i.e. fanpersons) then the term probably wouldn't be thrown around as much anyway.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I wouldn't be calling them girls, rather gamers of the opposite gender, at least so long as we're on the PC Nazi express here. |
I prefer the terms masculinely and femininely challenged game enthusiast myself...
Instead of not saying it at all, we should lay down terms and conditions of use of the word fanboy or fangirl or fanperson or fanpeople or MS Jr. or Ninty Jr. or Sony Jr. etc etc. I don't know what these terms and conditions should be so someone else can take up the torch and step up (to the firing range of the fanboys) for that one.
