Although I'm completely convinced that replacements direct from Microsoft aren't counted in sales figures, this isn't the whole story.
In Europe, the retailer has to handle refunds. Often (budget stores), they'll just send you to the manufacturer, but I've had problems with particularly Chinese and American companies with no interest at all in handling their obligations, and had to get my refund from the retailer instead - which is usually much more convenient anyway. High-end stores as part of their 'reason for existance' will often do immediate swap-out replacements and then handle it with the manufacturer later on.
For retailers handling refunds, would these be included in the sales figures? (MS would have to send a new console to the retailer). What percentage of overall replacements might these be?
