Forums - Gaming - How bad did Beyond Good and Evil actually sell?

I'm about 10+ hours into this game and it's easily one of my favorite games of all time.  Everything I've ever read about this game stated that it's critical reception was very high, yet it ultimately failed commercially.  This site doesn't seem to have any statistics, and I was wondering just how bad this game managed to sell across all of the platforms it was released on (GC PS2 Xbox and PC)?  I would appreciate any data, but it would be nice if anyone knew how much it sold on each individual platform as well.

Thanks!

Wait, you're talking to the guy that posted this awesome thread before!

In all seriousness, I think Wikipedia might have some data. Let me check...

*EDIT: No luck.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Yeah, it's sales where no where near where it should have been. It is a fantastic game. I finally started it again a little bit ago (I lost my original memory card for it and needed to buy a new one, when I did I found a Wii at the store, so it was almost a year 'till I remembered I bought that memory card. yup) anyho, I was really hoping it would sell better than it did. Hopefully the sequel on XBOX360 will get deserved sales.

It sold well enough to warrant a sequel. It's still selling on PC too, no matter how small it is: a few weeks ago it was on Steam's weekend deal with 50% discount, and I got my copy of BG&E only a few months ago through an offer from a magazine (still made some nickles for Ubisoft there too).

See it didn't sell enough to warrant a sequel.  It was supposed to be a trilogy, and that idea was immediately squashed because of how poor the original sold.  Michel Ancel only got the greenlight on the sequel becasue he secretly worked on it and begged ubisoft to OK it because he has such a personal attachment to the series.

I recall that across all four platforms the game failed to crack 300k, but it's been a long time since I heard that, so it could be wrong.

I know for sure it didn't go over 500k combined.

So 300k wasn't enough to warrant a sequel? But yeah, it should have sold well.

I just never get why games like this sell so poorly?

So many people grumble about 'same old same old' when another FPS, platformer, etc. appears then whenever something pretty original like this or ICO appears that blends genres and delivers a totally cohesive experience they avoid it like the plague.

Oh well... at least those of us who have played it know it for the gem it is.

I really hope the next one is both good and sells well.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
