A real gamer would put PC games in there.

oops, sry, forgot all about PC games. Seriously though, PC games dont hang with the big consoles when it comes to quality games unfortunately. PC is so scarce with AAA stuff I fail to remember any off hand.

Name me some if you can think of any, ill Edit the OP....

So the fact that PC has much more high rated games than any other platform this generation means nothing?

What do you consider AAA? If it's quality-wise, then there's games like Crysis, The Orange Box, Company of Heroes and World in Conflict.

There are a bunch of great PC games.

last I heard, Orange Box is Multiplat, so it is not like you can only play it on PC. Also Crysis did not appeal to the general public for two reasons,1: it cost way too much to create a PC that can handle it, 2: it was not as good as some of the othershooters available on consoles such as COD4.

Company of Heroes is maybe AA but it is also MultiPlat, how many games can you name that cannot be found elsewhere?

And I did not purposely leave out PC, I simply could not think of that many games for PC (besides multiplat stuff).

what the fuck! First, Crysis is better than Call of Duty 4, and apparently won more PC Game of the Year awards than COD4. Second, your reason #1 is pointless - it's the same as saying SMG is not AAA because you don't own a Wii.

Orange Box is multiplat, but so what? It's still awesome.

Company of Heroes is not multiplat, and is super awesome AAA. The vast majority of people who tried it will no doubt agree.

Though I admire your giant hairy testicular fortitude when it comes to voicing your personal opinion regarding PC games, Shio makes a valid point. Many "Gamers" grew under the PC games (speaking for myself) as much as console.

If it were not for Doom, Master of Orion, Quake, Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft, ect, many console games would not have had a blue-print, and story ark to evolve and refresh.

I understand and love console gaming, but games such as Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, World of Warcraft, Battlefield franchise, ect. do deserve a spot in your AAA. With the upcoming Blizzard releases of Starcraft 2, Diablo 2, Wrath of the Lich King (available only on PC) I would not be surprised if the game of the year goes to PC, and perhaps even in 2009.

We shall see......oh, and dont mess with Shio, he will eat your face, LOL.

Not signed. Some games are made for niche fans of a certain genre.

Not all games that score below 85% on metacritic are "mediocre."

Plus, you're missing many, many really great games that you would be missing out on, if you didn't play.

Unless you mean that non-listed games are "ok" for a real gamer to buy, like Uncharted.

Your list is rubbish. It is vastly incomplete, wrong, does not use any standard such as gamerankings or metacritic, and even if it did, its basic premise would be wrong. WTFever, this is flamboyant attention grabbing. Epic fail, sir. Do not be tempted to prod me into further comments, it won't end well.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I had this great manifesto written that mocked your hubris, but for the sake of civility and discussion I feel it's best left unposted. Instead, I will limit myself to a simple question: who defines what is and is not a Mediocre Game?

the general public.

AAA: a game that recieves top marks (90+) and General public adores it.

AA: a game that might not have gotten top marks (80+) but Gerneal public adores it.

Mediocre: a game that has not satisfied the Reviewers or the Public.

Wait, but that definition doesn't help at all! Metacritic scores are made by a small sample of the general population (longtime gamers, almost always boys, who generally share the same narrow tastes). Using their opinions to measure what is and is not a good game automatically means you're excluding newcomers, kids, people over thirty, and the vasy majority of women. I'm certain you see why that's horribly unwise...

But that's a minor problem compared to the massive contradiction in your criteria. The only way we can know what games the general public "adores" is by observing titles' sales. So we're now confronted with several problems: many, many games that receive top marks from metacritic et. al. do not sell well (and are therefore no longer worth purchasing) and many many games that receive mediocre marks well brilliantly, but are judged as not worth purchasing by your standard.

Of course, this ignores the elephant in the room, namely the fact that we can't know what games the general public adores until we see what they purchased, but it can't purchase any games until it knows which games will sell!

Wow! I just love how people take one little thing in an argument and run with it. Firstly, this thread was not to emphasize which games are AAA, AA, Mediocre but to solidify the census on how we should handle these different games. My list does not depict all AAA games that exist or all AA games that exist, only a small sample. IT was an EXAMPLE.

Secondly, the way I judge on how a game is AAA, AA, Mediocre is very much valid. If a game recieves countless bad reviews then you can best assure it is bad. I did not say I use Metacritic, I much rather go from what a reviewer puts in there review and score that personally to my liking. This eliminates the possiblity of bias within a review as you cannot evade the evidence of what is in a game. General Consensus can be judged by already generated sales, and how much P2P hype the game is getting (ala Little Big Planet as of right now).

The games I named are just MY LIST! Your list may be different from mine, depending on what you like. Quality is very much subjective in its own right, this was not to be the end all be all list.

SO TO EVERYONE ELSE IN POSTING IN THIS THREAD:

STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT MY LIST!!!!!

Also, I demand that GTAIV, Brawl, and Elite Beat Agents be added to that list, and that Ninja Gaiden II be removed from "mediocre titles."

you simply are not that smart. Read the rest of my comments in this thread on those who have stated the same thing you have. After reading what I have already stated, re evaluate what you just said and see how rediculous you sound.

After you have completed this, you may post your apology to me and my thread for steering clear of it's entire point....

If quality is subjective.. how can I promise to never buy a mediocre game? This whole thread fails it.

Real gamer would add PC and not have SMG there with not having mario 332432232 u just sound stupid.
