Forums - Microsoft - Left 4 Dead for Xbox360 running dedicated servers on Live. (and more news

sorry if this has been posted.

1.  running dedicated servers on Xbox Live - when you played online, you'd be on a dedicated server, period.

2.  Splitscreen play will also allow you and a friend to play together on Live from one 360, and you'll be able to slice the screen whichever way you like -- horizontally or vertically.

  • There are four campaigns, with five chapters each
  • The hospital level seen in demos is based on Philadelphia
  • Another level is based on Pittsburgh (evidently Valve has some Steelers fans)
  • Other levels cover a small town and an airport
  • Achievements are based on social engineering ideas and we got a couple of them:
    1. "Bite your tongue" - Kill Smoker (Enemy with prehensile tongue) before he can pull you in
    2. "Sharp Shooter" - Complete Co-op chapter without any friendly fire

Sounds great.

still looks a bit arcady to me, will have to wait for full game, hopefully it will be recived well and a ps3 game released.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Awesome about the co-op local and over Live. Can't wait!

Its about time we start getting dedicated servers for Live, the only other 360 games I know who have them is Final Fantasy (duh) and Frontlines

This might a dumb question, but what does this mean exactly?

Cod4 and Halo 3 does not use dedicated servers?

Would it mean no more losing connections?

Dammit, that means no party system. Oh well, I guess it is not really necessary in a game like this.

From the videos on gametrailers, I'd have to say I completely disagree, this game looks anything but arcadey to me.  To each his own opinion though.

Four player with a group of friends on Live though makes this a day one purchase for me.  Dedicated servers just seems to sweeten the deal.  If this solution was made for Valve I wonder if other high profile games (looking at you Gears 2) will have the same opportunity?

Jagged - dont you think the fall update party system would allow for this though?

I meant a party system like Halo 3.  It is much more difficult to implement that sort of system on dedicated servers.  But considering this is a game meant to be played by only a single group at a time, I do not see this as a big problem.

COD4 and Halo 3 games are hosted by a player. L4D games will be hosted on a dedicated server owned and operated by either Valve or Live.

Edit: forgot to answer last part - yes it means no more issues with hosts dropping out since they'll be no host player.
