Aug. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Nintendo Co. raised its full-year profit forecast by 26 percent because of higher-than-anticipated sales of Wii and DS game players, sending the company's shares to their biggest gain in nine months.

Net income will climb 59 percent to 410 billion yen ($3.8 billion) in the year ending March 31, the Kyoto-based company said today.

Nintendo said today that sales of the Wii, equipped with a motion-sensing controller that can be swung like a bat, will probably climb to 26.5 million players this year, exceeding the July forecast for 25 million. Sales of software for the console will increase 56 percent to 186 million units, the company said.

Very impressive for nintendo to already raise their forcast from 25 million this fiascle year to 26.5 million.  Things must be going extremely well for the Wii.

it will sell 26.5 million this fiascle year, from 1st April 2008 - 31st of March 2009 (so 12 months of sales). The forcast was for 25 million to be produced.

26.5m for a fiscal year doesn't sound terribly wrong. 1.8m/month * 12 months = 21.6m

They upped production to 2.4m, but they had 3-4 months of 1.8m production, so that lands you right at 26.5m

I have a feeling they are planning on upping production again, because this prediction for fiscal year predicts complete sellouts, as they had no extra stock at the beginning of the year either.
