Nyko Wing Controller For Wii Preview

A first look at the new wireless Classic Controller alternative.

August 28, 2008 - Lets face it; the Classic Controller add-on for the Wii is not perfect. Having to wire the Classic Controller to the Wiimote in order to use it is certainly less than preferred. Nevertheless, in order to have expanded controls and the comforting feel of analog sticks beneath their thumbs, gamers have had put up with the umbilical cord-like connectivity of the Classic Controller…up until now.

Nyko, makers of a wide assortment of gaming accessories, announced today their upcoming wireless alternative for the Classic Controller. Dubbed the Wing, Nyko is cutting the cord and letting gamers roam without having to have the Wiimote close at hand. The Wing features a design that could be readily identified as the lovechild of a SIXAXIS controller and a Wiimote. The remote features the ergonomic handles and four shoulder buttons of an Xbox 360 or PS3 controller, but the inoffensive rounded aesthetic of the Wii.

The Wing is powered via 2 AAA batteries and boasts a playtime of 30 hours. Additionally, players can install store-bought rechargeable AAA batteries via an included USB cable while they play. Included with the Wing is a wireless adaptor that connects to the bottom of any enabled Wiimote for wireless freedom.

Pricing and availability have not been announced.

I'm all for a wireless SNES experience that isn't a Wavebird.  Hopefully it clock in at less than $29.99.

Around the Network

if i can play gamecube games with this i might buy it

ummm no.

There really is not problem using the classic controller connected to the wiimote. It's still overall wireless and you just plop the wiimote in your lap. Plus, only one set of batteries being used with classic+wiimote.

I think they will get sued by Nintendo just like they did for the wireless nunchuck.

meh I like the Nintendo one better, that was my Brawl controller.

I don't want wireless. The cord of the classic controller completes the old school experience.

Except that it comes from the wrong side.  Unless you were accustomed to playing with the controller upside down.

Maybe that would have at least given all those other Mario Kart fans a fighting chance.
