Forums - Microsoft - Shall I... buy an Xbox 360?

Chrizum said:

Heh. As some of may know, I own a Wii and a PS3. Very happy with the Wii, not quite as happy (but still somewhat!) with the PS3.

Today, I saw an Xbox 360 Core 60GB with the following:
- Gears of War
- Project Gotham Racing
- 2 wireless controllers
- remote
- headset
- component cable (I will buy a HDMI cable anyway)

for the (imo) stunning price of 298 euro.

Games I would buy an Xbox for: Halo 3, Eternal Sonata, Far Cry Instincts Predator, Castle Crashers, Braid, Fable 2. No other games really interest me at the moment. My girlfriend would love another console, especially for Eternal Sonata, Castle Crashers and Fable 2.

What to do? Buy or nay?

If your girlfriend also wanted to, next year you could also Coop Tales of vesperia with her and did you know that Banjo Kazooie is coming with the N64 version for free? (I see that you had that game in your collection) Also Lode runner is an awesome game for Xbox Live as well (I played it when I was 3!)

I would expect that given the success of the summer of Arcade program there are going to be more titles for you and your girlfriend to play (Congrats on getting one you can share games with).

Whilst I would love to have you buy an Xbox 360 so that you can share the same games I experience, I guess its a matter of asking yourself if the quantity and quality of the gaming experience on the Xbox 360 justifies the price of $298 Euros. Before I got my Xbox 360 (I was a Wii, PS3, PC owner like you) I had to think carefully, not about the retail price of the games but the actual pleasure I would expect to recieve from owning an Xbox 360. My approach was to value the different experiences tentatively to see if the price was justified by the experience. Because my girlfriend at the time  liked the controllers more, I found the experience of playing games to be much more rewarding which was a huge bonus to me. (I got her playing Halo 3!)

For me the price was obviously justified as I bought one, I just found that the experience grew on me because there was always some new content coming out for me to try.

I hope this helps!

Thats a good deal...you should get it

Get Tales of Vesperia along with Eternal Sonata, if you have the chance/money. I know it doesn't come out for some time, but once you have ES beat, it'll be a great co-op game for you and your girlfriend (as Eternal Sonata was for me and my fiancee).

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I would get it, there are a lot of games coming out.

Can't go wrong with Braid and Castle Crashers. Ton of casual friendly games and co-op games coming this holiday. And with an endorsement from the lady-friend, how can you say no???

Go for it!

I am very happy with mine.

As for games, right now I recommend:

Tales of Vesperia, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Braid, and Gears.

I can't imagine playing through this gen, without having experienced those last 4 games...ToV is much more niche, but if you like anime-jrpg, that's the game.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

I got a Wii at launch for me and my girlfriend also. After about 8 months though she got kind of bored of it and we decided to purchase a 360. My library of games has grown quickly since picking up the 360 and there are always games that we can enjoy together. If it was up to her she would play my 360 more than me lol.

There are a lot of games from just about every genre that you guys can enjoy and a lot of co-op/multiplayer games you can play. It's funny because my g/f hated FPS games (and was pretty bad at them too) but she started playing Halo3 and has gotten decent and plays it all the time lol. You might be surprised at what she finds enjoyable on the system.

Since then I've sold my Wii and bought a PS3. Kinda sad but I sold it for more than I paid for it for after almost a year of use and I did keep my games. Maybe when the price drops I'll pick up another.

Completed X360:
High Def Movie Collection

why not? with a deal like that, the only reason you shouldn't pick it up is if you become completely bankrupted.

do it.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is the best Zelda title ever made.

"The Person Who Got the Closest to Winning the 1st VGC VC Giveaway, but still lost"

I got a 360 before I got a PS3. As a result, the impact of the PS3 was greatly diminished. If you get a 360 after already owning a PS3, you risk experiencing the same situation. They almost are the same console, really. Still, the games you've named plus a few others may make the purchase worthwhile. Meditate on this, I will.
