Forums - Sony - Sony Wants To Offer More Services For Free Interesting

Speaking in an interview at Games Convention in Leipzig with our friends at GamesIndustry.biz, Sony’s Worldwide Studios, President Shuhei Yoshida said that the company wanted to provide as many services to PlayStation 3 and PSP users as possible by exploring new business partnerships and new revenue models.

"We’re more open about approaching and bringing services in to PS3 and PSP," he explained. "We can’t support all the needs of the consumer and there are great companies providing services on the PC already - so we’re very open to provide the opportunity to those companies to reach our user base as well."

While talking about the importance of the VidZone deal being free to consumers, he revealed that the firm has been looking at the Internet as a good example of alternative funding methods.

"We like to provide as many services as possible for free - we already provide our network access for gameplay for free - and the interesting thing about the network side and the Internet business is that there’s a variety of revenue sources," he said. "Not necessarily getting people to pay, but with advertising and so on.

"Those are things we’re looking at, and learning how we can provide a service without people having to pay - but we still get our operation running with funding from somewhere so that we can maintain the level of quality we want."

PlayStation 3 users will be able to access the free music video streaming service from Q1 2009, with the added bonus of creating playlists and porting them to the PSP.

This sounds awesome news for both PS3 and PSP owners.

whoop whoop, dont you just love them

Piracy FTW.

I was just wondering, that since Sony offers streaming for free, it shouldn't really be a problem to save the track to CD...

Ei Kiinasti.

Hmmm, whenever I stream something to my computer and I try to save it to my comp, it doesn't have the quality required.  And finding something good that will allow streaming to be downloaded, will be hard enough.

nope i would say 49.99 a month, you know how they like to bump up the prices

There they go again. Sony just loves screwing consumers, being bad for gamers. What will they do next? free service for all PSN users when tyhe PSPhone is released. $ony, thanks for screwing 360, and Wii fanboys over.

This is why Playstation will always be my number one choice. Sony does an awsome job delivering on their product from day one tell the end. That is also why PS3 will make 100M units. PS3 is out there to sell, and its image will become what it has to, to make that happen for at least 10 years.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

the value of the ps3 just keeps rising and risng, i think thats why they am doing it, to enflate the value of the ps3, so they can say stuff like with the ps3 you make a one of payment for the hardware and everything else is free of charge apart from various games and accessories.

but when you by the 360 you have to pay for, the online, for hd-dvd, for wireless internet, dont know about the video service and all that but you get what i am saying. this is defiantly a plus for sony, only if they were aloud to do comparisons on cost effectiveness.
