Forums - Gaming - Will there ever be another AAA survival horror game?

Survival horror games used to be some of the best games the industry had to offer. However these days they seem to be budget titles such as Obscure 2 or a failed attempt at a good game such as Alone in the Dark.

Sure some games have come close to AAA status his gen (Condemned 1/2, Siren) but the industry used to have couple of survival horror games every year that were must play titles.

Games like Silent Hill 1 and 2(amazing), Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil 1,2,3,Code veronica, Remake, Clock Tower...

So what could be a possible AAA entry in to this genre this gen? (If any)

Silent Hill 5? Fatal Frame 4? Roumored Eternal Darkness sequel? Dead Space? A new IP?

PS. Resident Evil 4 wasn't survival horror so I doubt 5 will be...

The genre's time has come and gone, I'm afraid. Silent Hill 5 looks like crap, and while Fatal Frame 4 is supposed to be spooky it's also quite clunky and buggy.

The only survival horror I can think that isn't on your list already is Cursed Mountain, and lord knows how that'll turn out to be. No, it seems we'll just have to go back to playing Silent Hill 2 for our horror fix.

Cursed Mountain.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

It is very unlikely that we will see a AAA survival horror game in the near future.

Kinda depressing when I think about it...as I still love these games. I picked up Alone in the Dark and actually enjoyed some parts of it as it was true survival horror... I rented Obscure 2 hoping it will be semi -playable but it wasn't.

I don't think Cursed mountain will turn out any better than obscure 2 to be honest. The developer is a budget developer and its a Wii only title. I don't want to say shovelware as I'm hoping its not but it sure sounds like it...

WAIT...I Got it...There is hope!!!!

Alan Wake.

Alan Wake.........

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

I'm on Chapter 10 (of 13, apparently) in Fatal Frame 4. There have been no bugs for me, and I think the "clunkiness" aspect is exagerrated.
I'm enjoying the game immensely. I'm not sure if it reaches "AAA" status, but definitely recommend it for those who enjoy the horror genre.

Alan Wake, Dead Space, and Rainy Woods all look really promising.

I'm really glad you added that part because RE4 is an epic fail on the scare-o-meter compared to its predecessors. The cultists were were a lame attempt to add some scare to the game.
