Because Star Ocean 4 is bigger and better.

I think we all know that.  IU seemed more like a prototype for SO4 since it apparently isn't as good as it could of been(no, I am not basing this on just IGN's review).

That... Actually makes sense. So do you think SO4 will be much more conservative on things like party size? Personally I would prefer between 3 and 6, because otherwise it would feel too cluttered.

So SO4/IU are actually quite similar? So really the IU game is like half of SO4 (Engine/design/some graphics and textures) with another half tacked on and sold as a different game?

I always felt like with the path IU has taken, that it would be a prototype for SO4 as well - in the same way that Eternal Sonata was a prototype for Tales of Vesperia.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

SO3 originally had 8 party members so I really hope they mean 10 (or 12) and not 8.

And I can tell if a game is hyped depending on a number of factors. IU is on the 360 so there's a limited hype factor in Japan since we know few people will actually be picking it up, tri-Ace's last new IP didn't do that great on the PS2, expected sales, the fact that it's preceeding Star Ocean 4 (which for all intents and purposes will be a better game), etc. Right now it looks like IU won't pass Vesperia, and Vesperia is already low for a Tales game.

EDIT: Isn't Hillary Goldstein the Sony fanboy? Why on Earth did they let him review this? This is almost as bad as that heifer on Gamespot that doesn't like RPG but they keep making her review them anyway.

I didn't know that Hillary Goldstein was a guy... Am I the only one who didn't think of that at first?

@ Topic
Comments and the actual review are important to judge many times of games. I will look into trying this game out.

Hmm, interesting about those other reviews. It might end up pretty good. I think I'll check out a second opinion, seeing as how a lot of people say this Hillary dude is an elitist fanboy, on the IGN comments, and here.

I'm planning on a rent anyway, so can't go wrong.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

He might be a fanboy but he does make some valid points in his reviews

Hmm.

Appearently the Famitsu review has been posted/leaked. It mentions a bit more info about IU than what Goldstien's review had, and is far more positive about the game.

Upon beating it on Normal mode, you can unlock a Hard mode, that adds quite a bit to the game - new items, a dungeon (maybe), and other content.

Hillary's reputation has been earned by making incorrect statements about numerous titles.  A couple of those reviews were Lost Odyssey and Assasins Creed.  IGN readers know when we see a comment from Hillary about a slow frame rate that it probably doesn't exist or is not nearly as extreme as stated in his reviews.

I would have like to have seen a second opinion from a different IGN editor, one whose reputation hasn't been tarnished as of late.

Apparently not everyone agrees with Hillary's review:

Famitsu Xbox gave it 34/40 (81.6%) - The same score as Tales of Vesperia
360-Live (German 360 mag) gave it a 8.8 saying that it's "maybe the best JRPG for the 360"

So it may not be as atrocious as Hillary is making it out to be.

I would wait for sites as Gamespot and Gametrailers. I would be a lot dissapointed in my life if I used the scores of Famitsu for buying games and 360 Live never have heard about it.

Trust me, lol, I could make a scathing review of any game with plenty of valid points. Games aren't a series of wins and fails, instead they are an overall entity that should be judged based on the utility and enjoyment that entity provides.

In other words, every game has plenty of valid flaws. I could talk about how you can't side-strafe in RE4, or how un-scarey it was compared to other games in the series, but if I tack a 7.1 on at the end, those flaws don't make it so.

I'm not defending the game, I'm just saying I'll wait for a second review to confirm this one's findings, like we should with all games. In fact, I usually wait on 5 specific ones.

IGN is a thousand times more credible than Famitsu (who bases their review scores on hype) and a 360 magazine reviewing a 360 game.

IU must've been pretty hyped in Japan.  Not suprising, all of Tri-Ace's games are hyped in Japan. SO3 in particular had a ton of hype before it was released

No. I doubt this game was hyped there at all. It will probably do worse than Radiata Stories.

Anyways, I like how all the Sony fanboys are converging here based on a numerical score. I guess I can understand the 'revenge' needed to be enacted upon tri-Ace and Square Enix for having the audacity to betray Sony. I, however, fully intend on buying and enjoying this game whenever I get a 360.

Can't believe they did 18 characters. I hope this isn't a trend, tri-Ace should have went for at least 30. I guess what's done is done, but SO4 better have at least 12 characters or I'll be disappointed.

But how about the Xbox fanboys who are so willing to ignore a less that stellar review in favor of a higher review? "7.1 just can't be right because it's an Xbox 360 game!!!"

Hackers are poor nerds who don't wash.
