I love how review scores only count when they benefit your fanboyism.

"Gamerankings means the 360 has the best library! Look at all the 9sssss!!!! AAA HARDCORE!!!"

But as soon as Gamerankings questions the quality of your RPGs it's just opinions. I hate fanboys.

great post, so true =)

I'm not surprised by this score, I always thought this was going to be a mediocre game hyped by 360 owners to help their claim of the 360 being like a holy grail of RPGs

7.1 isn't horrible, but it's not going to set the world on fire.

and 20-30 hours is pretty short for an RPG. Twenty hours is a week at most, and a weekend for the hardcore. I was never excited about the game, so it doesn't matter for me, but I don't see the point in MS getting all these JRPGs and none of them are greatly reviewed, it doesn't make sense to me.

I think it really depends on what you do in the 20-30hrs. Quite a few people on these forums deride Mass Effect for being 20-30hrs...But at least in my case, I've spent close to 100 enjoyable hours with various playthroughs, and never getting the same game twice.

IU and ME are nothing alike.

ME can get another playthrough because of the whole "Renegade/Paragon" thing, and while it's story driven, there's a gaggle of (repetitive) "side missions" that I suppose people could have fun with if you enjoy the same five locations re-used for all the side-missions and load times coming off and on of every planet.  By chance, how many hours of ME did the game spend loading? :P

I don't see how people could play ME for any more than the 15/20 hours it takes to beat the game unless there was an achievement to do so, unless you really wanted to explore being good or bad, but really, didn't we already get enough of that in Kotor 1?  Kotor 2?  Jade Empire?

A JRPG being 20-30 hours is different than a JRPG.  Since IU is more linear, and story driven than Mass Effect, which was open since you got the Normady, replaying the game wouldn't yield entirely different results like ME would, and would be very boring.

But I digress, I was never excited about the game (Rightfully so, it seems), and don't really care about the score.  It just strikes me as odd that 20 hours is okay for a JRPG.

The loading times were okay.  It is rare if the game loaded for 5 seconds.

I wonder which the Sony fanboys perfer? The ability to marginalize 360 exclusives, or the ability to damage control the PS3's gamerankings statistics.

In one of the first posts on this thread, you have a major PS3 fanboy saying that he doesn't buy games below 85%, and here you have an entire thread of celebrating children, who couldn't be more gleeful that a game might flop, simply because it doesn't appear on their console.

I hate fanboys, also.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

...and for the record, reviews are opinions, obviously.

Most JRPGs haven't scored great this generation.

The only valid comment I found was about the story being linear and sidequests not being tied in well.

Other then that, the reviewer was more talking about their own gaming prefences then they were rating this particular title as a JRPG.

I guess we will see when it comes out.

To be quite blunt, there haven't been any great JRPGs this generation. Lost Odyssey is the best of the bunch and while it's a decent title, it pales in comparisson to many RPGs of the PS2 generation.

It makes me sad, actually. I'm a big JRPG fan and it looks like FF XIII is still going to be the first big game in the genre this generation despite how many times it's been delayed. This could be the weakest generation for JRPGs in a long time.

Lost Odyssey wasn't a big game?  White Knight Chronicles isn't a big game?

I think he means GREAT GAME. So far I agree with him.

White Knight Chronicles is coming from a very talented developer and you still think FFXIII is going to be the first great JRPG this gen.  I hope you think FFXIII will be out before WKC
