SFIV: "Lag will be a huge problem"

But "we're working on it," says producer Yoshinori Ono

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/

One-on-one down the arcade (if there are any left outside of city centres) or gathered round the telly in your front room is the only way to play a beat-'em-up. But with the emergence of Xbox Live and PlayStation Network came a way to play online that brought as much sorrow as it did joy. Yes lag, we're looking at you!

The team at Capcom knows what we're talking about, more so than other devs by the sounds of it, in an interview with OXM.

"Obviously lag will be a huge problem for online play," producer Yoshinori Ono told the UK magazine. "We're working on it. Compared to other games such as Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur, they've got replay functions and so forth. It's quite difficult for 3D Street Fighter at the moment."

Treating lag issues is like finding a cure for the common cold. As in they can't. But that doesn't stop millions of man hours being used up trying to find a solution.

Ono says, "In order to prevent the lag we're thinking about trying to balance it up at user interface level and input timing by using joystick or something like that. We still haven't got a complete plan as yet. We're still working on it. That's all we can say at the moment."

They've got a while to work on it some more. Then the game will ship on Xbox 360 and PS3. Then people will complain about the lag. History has told us this.

this is a stange article, and i hope the final retail copy doesnt have this problem, i personally find soul caliber 4 over PSN as running brilliantly, i guess it runs the same on XBL

i would have SFIV a game im really looking forward to, to have bad lag online, SCIV is also a 3d game so i see no reason why SFIV cant do the same.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

better to delay the game and fix up the problems. There is nothing more frustrating that playing a laggy game that is an unplayable piece of crap. Well we know a few of them are on the market.

Thats horrible... Having lag is the gaming equivalent of having aids.

Two Worlds on X360 says : "Remember me people?"

In the meantime, HURRY UP WITH HD REMIX!!!

I played SF II Turbo online a couple days ago. Got my ass whipped big time! I need to return to the dojo.

Don't troll.  That had nothing to do with the topic.

I really hope they will fix it, beacuse i cant wait to fight online.

Well having lag in a fighting game is going to be impossible to fix. Since communication between the 2 players needs to have almost no communication lag, and unfortunately that isn't going to be happening anytime soon.

They could buy the solution from here: http://ggpo.net/

It's really good, don't have any noticeable lag!

 ..........
^Click on cards to level'em up!!!^ =D

Fighting games have only recently been brought online with this latest generation, and most of the games have some lag...it's very hard to get around.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
