yes, but here (argentina)it is 550 dollars
In Europe we generally have $ prices directly converted into €, which basically adds 20% or so to the cost. On top of that, in Finland we get to pay what I call the "fuck you Finland" fee, which for example means our Wiis are 270€ compared to the rest of Europe's 250, and our PS3 are 680€. Games are also usually 50-60€ for the Wii, and up to 70€ on the HD consoles.
Of course we have free healthcare, free universities, get paid for studying and all that stuff. Wouldn't trade places with any of you guys. =P
In Canada, we have the free health care and subsidised Universities, so a lot cheaper! Unless you're international I suppose. Plus we only get taxed to hell on alcohol and tobacco. Unless you're in a province other than Alberta.
Shrug, I'd be in Finland, if 3 generations ago they hadn't moved to Canada.

Oh man, don't eve get me started. The MSRP in Portugal is €60 VAT included, €50 or around $70 without. It's €10 more than Strikers' MSRP! Some stores sell it for the european MSRP of €50, but still... it's a ripoff.
Almost all wii games costs 599:- ($85 US) here in Sweden :(
Predictions for December 31st 2008:
Wii 38,000,000
DS 84,500,000
PS3 17,000,000
PSP 41,000,000
X360 23,000,000

Man, get over it. Taxes do not excuse this! What the heck do you think? We have 100%+ VAT rates!?
I can't feel sorry for you that things are expensive where you live, because you live in what most of the world considers the middle of nowhere. You pay the price for your remoteness and small population. I'm sure it sucks, but you're not being ripped off.
As for the higher price in Finland, well, I'd kill to be paid to go to school. So, take that as you will. Europeans pay more because they have higher taxes, multiple languages, complex mutlinational laws and such for the game companies to overcome before they can break into what as traditionally been a weaker market than Japan. It's getting better for the companies over there, but it's still a massive pain to operate in Europe and for all that it's still less profitable than the US.
South America, well, most people are just going to pirate the games no matter what the cost is anyway, so they may as well price in a way that makes them money, right? Why sell a game for $40 when piracy will not decrease because of it and sales won't increase dramatically.

Dam, I am really feeling for you guys, I still think that 50USD is too expensive for most games, but paying several times that for a game on regular basis is horrible.

No worries, our South American friends are just going to pay $5-10 to get the bootleg copy that'll be easier to find than the legit one and many Europeans have higher wages along with those higher taxes so they can afford it. Really, there's little reason to complain about price differences around the world when economic and social differences (paid to go to study?!) exist. The prices are what they are for reasons beyond the simple "We want to make more money from you guys than those guys" that most people believe it to be.
