Forums - Sony - Why all the Sony hate?

I criticize Sony (and Microsoft, for that matter) not because I'm some kind of raging Nintendo fan, but because I think that they have very poor business strategies. I could really care less about who produces "good" games, as I joined this website to discuss sales trends and the business side of gaming. I've posted at length elsewhere about why I feel that Sony's market share "sell at a loss strategy" makes turning a profit impossible over the long haul. I'm not gloating over this, just pointing out that with Sony's business model, sooner or later they were going to get creamed in the market. It caught up to them with the PS3, which will never turn a profit and has already wiped out all the gains of the PS1/2 halcyon days. The console market is so volatile, it was almost inevitable that this would happen at some point.

Why do you criticize something that benefits the consumer?

Some of us here are investors first, consumers second.

I don't hate Sony, I just dislike the $600 (soon to be $500) price tag. That's it. Everything else about the system is great: free online, rechargeable controllers, beautiful graphics. BR is okay, but i wouldn't use it.

I think the biggest thing that is overlooked by everyone is the fact that the controllers are rechargeable. Wii & Xbox 360 controllers are $60(for the set) and $50 respectively and it still costs extra for rechargeable battery packs. That's bullsh*t.

exploding batteries, and the other bad press Sony was receiving before the PS3 even released.

Sorry, I couldn't let that go.

Sony is one of the best makers of batteries. PERIOD.

The "exploding battery" thing was ridiculous, because it was only Dell (see, even their competitiors use thier batteries) Laptops that had the problem, the Sony ones never did, so it was more of Dell's fault than Sony's but, it seems everyone blames Sony for it.

If you don't believe me that Sony is good at making batteries, take this into account, when I got my Walkman, it had a battery life of 48hrs, and equivalent iPod had a battery life (at that time) of about 20hrs.

Seriously, if you don't like a company because they're so good at making batteries (and are in many products), then you need to get your priorities straight.

On-topic, it's just because there's a loada Nin fanboys on this site. Also I like them (Nintendo), but nobody seems to remember how they totally screwed Sony, they just remember/know of how Sony totally screwed Nintendo and Microsoft last 2 gens, personally, I think that Sony is the least monopolistic of the three. I mean they never had as great percentage of the VGConsole/Hanheld market that Nintendo has at point enjoyed, and of course anybody who says Microsoft isn't Monopolistic, is totally ignorant really. How many people know that the EU is constantly fining Microsoft for owning so much of the market, albeit it's not that much compared to their profits. The fact that Sony is seen as monopolistic I think is the biggest reason IMO.

One person's experience or opinion never shows the general consensus

Ignorance and jealousy pretty much sums it all up.

I see so that's why you're against Sony and Microsoft, for not being more competitive with their price and specs and taking away business from Nintendo.  You make a hell of a lot of sense.

If I felt for a second that Sony or MS has a better business strategy, I would jump ship faster than you can say sell/buy.

The fact of the matter is that if I'm wrong in my analysis, I lose money. So far I haven't been wrong.

LOL, good thing your analysis with stock is a lot better than your prediction of sales in the prediction league, otherwise you'd likely be broke ;)
