Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: GearBox developing Halo 4 for the next Xbox?

I'll wait first for Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway and Borderlands before I make a decision.
Halo PC port was ok, the 2nd Halo port was crappy

They didn't do the Halo 2 port

Surely this is bad news? This means the next xbox will be here soon, and MS will have once again given their console the shortest possible timespan.

Obviously that only applies if this is true

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I've been thinking this for a while.  I have a few friends at Gearbox and they've been super tight lipped about their secret project (jerks :-p) but that never kept me from guessing.

  1. They've worked on a Halo game before
  2. They are a very respected FPS developer and for good reason
  3. Their games are character and story driven, exactly what Halo tries to be
  4. One Halo game is being brought to the Dallas area, why not another?

What about the multiplayer? Its very hard to get it right and it has to be top tier like COD IV, Gears of War, Team Fortress 2 etc. Above average doesn't cut it for this game, either make excellence or don't bother showing up IMO. Nothing against Gearbox its just that very few developers can reach the same levels as the developers I listed for example.

Is this the same Gearbox that made Samba de Amigo?

Yes

Errr I hope not, and im being serious here! There are very three studios I would trust with Halo outside of Bungie. They are Epic, Valve, and Infinity Ward. If anyone outside those four develops the next Halo im going to be sorely disapointed.

I have full faith in them.  While Brothers in Arms isn't my cup of tea, they're still probably among top WWII franchises out there.

I wish I could! :/

Not meaning to add fuel to the fire but look at their site...

"Unnanounced title"...could be something big. Also, these guys have 3 FPS games coming out in less than a year.

They made some good games but I'd uch rather have a studio like Monolith do Halo 4.

@Squilliam there is no way Epic should be doing Halo 4. They can't make a good campaign to save their ass.

Infinity ward could make a good game but they'd have to go with a more gritty feel which may not be halo that we know. Valve would make a good story game, and good multiplayer so that may be the best choice. Other than Monolith ofcourse :)

I don't think Monolith would be that good to be honest. They can make an awesome single player game but I haven't seen any good multiplayer games out of them, though their single player alumni is pretty impressive reading.

@ Epic, They are good enough to do the multiplayer side as good as the rest of them and I've been playing through Gears of War 1 so I think they can also do a pretty good single player game when the mood strikes them.

Infinity ward is probably a better choice than Epic as they are probably better developers overall and I think they could capture the spirit of Halo both in single player and multiplayer even better than the boys at Epic. I don't understand why you'd say that they'd make it too gritty, I think they're better than that and you should give them more credit.

Valve would work and theres nothing more to say on that.

I don't know man, FEAR had great multiplayer I think. When FEAR came out on consoles it had multiplayer better than any console FPS game I can think of. Halo 3 and COD4 totally demolished that for sure...but in 2005/2006 not much was out there that was as good.

I hate unreal touney and sure hope Epic has nothing to do with halo.

Yeah, they have proved themselves much in terms of multiplayer but then again, had Bungie when they made Halo?

Seriously people, Gearbox is an awesome studio.

Gearbox is awesome, but Halo is one of my favourite games of all times. Its difficult to trust anyone but Valve to make a Half-Life and its just as hard to trust anyone but Bungie to make Halo 4.

If Halo was my child and Gearbox was looking after him for a while, I would call every day to make sure that hes alright.

there developing titles for their next console already?

Yeah I know. Maybe my sentence was a bit unclear. I meant the Halo port from Gearbox was good - the port of the 2nd Halo game (by MGS) was crappy

Actually Squilliam, when you think about this, this is great news if its true. We have a talented but unproven studio working on Halo 4. Ofcourse they will want to out-do Bungie and put their studio name on the gaming map. While at the same time Bungie can work on other games for the 360 and deliver more quality software to us.
