PS3 won't have sold much in S.A

Sony said the PS3 is going to launch in Argentina, Columbia and Peru by March 2009

Do you have a link for that? Brazil is South America's largest market, so I'd expect them to launch there too. Anyway, if correct then this is quite important, I'm expecting PS3 to receive a price cut before it launches in South America, so maybe we'll see one in CY Q1 08.

Well there you go..... and it was only recently launched in Brazil correct? so my 60k figure is probably too high even for that.

I recently went to Argentina, Uruguay and Peru, and decided to look at the costs of game systems. A PS2 was running anywhere from $200 to $500 and the PS3 and 360 were selling at around $800 to $1000 US. I don't think S.A. is gonna make even a marginal splash at those prices.

PS3 vs 360 sales

South American market is about the same size as Mexican market.

I guess that answers that.

Thanks Mike, I'll add it to the Latin American thread. Surprised Brazil won't be amongst the first countries, maybe they feel that the taxes are just too high there.

I dunno... I just remember someone mentioning it a few months back that it was about to launch... I or they could be wrong. (either way PS3 hasn't sold much in S.A.

Thanks for the Mexico estimates... I was low on all three I guess

Well, they're just estimates, so mine isn't neccessarily correct, but it seems like the best way to compare the two countries.

Sony announced at E3 that they were going to start distributing PS3 in South America this FY but didn't give any more details. The link MikeB supplied has more details:

Sony Computer Entertainment will launch operations in Argentina, Columbia and Peru by March 2009, its first step into the South American market, Hirai said.

So official PS3 sales in South America will remain at zero until March 09.

Wish we could get Mexico numbers to get total picture of the NA market

There's a discrepancy between this month's Canadian LTD & YTD compared to lastmonth's.

LTD: June / July = Difference

Wii: 986,200 / 1,060,000 = 73,800
360: 840, 700 / 870,000 = 29,300
PS3: 487,600 / 520,000 = 32,400

YTD: June / July = Difference

Wii: 318,000 / 376,000 = 58,000
PS3: 170,500 / 200,000 = 29,500
360: 129,000 / 154,000 = 25,000

PS3 & 360 can be explained by YTD being rounded off to 1k and LTD being rounded off to 10k, but it can't Wii difference. I'm going to use the YTD data as it's more accurate, but there seems to be a mistake in either this month's or last month's data. It's not a significant difference, but hopefully future numbers will show us where the mistake lies. If NPD had adjusted their numbers it should have affected the both LTD & YTD figures.

That graphic is definitely wrong.MS claimed 250.000 consoles sold as cumulated userbase for 31 december 2007 here in Spain ,and after that graphic it looks as if it sold 240.000 units in 2007 alone.

Any idea when will we get GFK figures from Spain?
