Forums - Sony - Would a FFVII remake overshadow FFXIII exclusivity loss?

Yes, it will, surely. For me, at least. After finishing FF VII and watching Advent Children, a game that I saw as a rather mediocre FF at the time, started to shine. A remake, with high quality graphics, same artstyle voiceovers... retaining every bit of the materia system and gameplay, story... that'd be the greatest thing they can remake (after FF VI, haha!)... I can see myself enjoying it very much... a definite system seller that will push the PS3(4?) skyward.

In all fairness i think this is one more evidence FFVII is definatly coming out. Sony knows there's huge business in FFVII, see spin-offs and movie(s), check sales on FFVII - PS1, check the huge fanbase that is ever growing.

If you'd ask anyone who wants a ps3 for a certain game, there's only one answer to it: FFVII. There are hints left by Square Enix in the secret ending of the psp game: FF Crisis Core. "The story will be continued in FFVII...." was the message they send us. Not only did they suprise us with the secret ending, they used the E3 2005 PS3 footage for it, which suggests the viewer the story will be continued in breath-taking new graphics version of FFVII.

If you ask me why on earth FFXIII goes multiplatform, i think it wouldn't be a strange train of thought if you would have known a FFVII remake is on its way and it will be exclusive. Will FFXIII be a huge loss to the PS3 owners then?

There are lots of Square-Enix employees that joined the company because they were inspired by FFVII and wanted to be involved in future FF-related games, and even hoped to be involved in a remake someday. (read this in an interview somewhere)

Why keep things quiet? A remake of a legendary game ain't the easiest task one can do. What you need is time, lots of time. The wait seems less for us all who have been waiting for this game if they would announce it when the game is finished or almost finished. Rather than telling us about the remake in 2005 and the release date is in 2009/2010. The good side about keeping things quiet is that the game is so popular, (and so is its ps3 tech trailer) that the rumour is a free marketing tool. Plus it won't put any ps3 games in the 'shadow' aslong as the remake isn't officialy acknowledged yet.

Imagine us knowing FFVII is going to be released. Would anyone look forward to another game then? Not as much i think..

Ah well, that was my train of thought. Sorry for the long story. :)

If a FFVII remake was made, and it was exclusive to the PS3, many people would say that it would overshadow the XIII loss of exclusivity, but it might also overshadow FFXIII as a game as well, and take away from its sales. I don't think bringing out a remake of VII around the same time as releasing XIII would be a good idea at all. Either release it now, or after XIII has been out for a year or so.

Just kiss the tip.

I want a next-gen Final Fantasy Tactics...

Ok enough wishing aside, Final Fantasy Versus XIII has been said to be the core/main game of the Crystalis XIII project; this was shown on their website for their tokyo invite event. I guess this was SE's move to heal the wound from XIII going multi. I really don't think Versus will get a port to Xbox 360 because it'll certainly make SE and Sony's relation really awkward.

On the bright side of SE and Sony relation, Agito XIII and Parasite Eve on the PSP is really a good morale booster for Sony fans... I always find it awkward that many talk about Sony vs Microsoft without taking the PSP in the picture as if PSP isn't a sony product...

PSP isn't something that we should just skim over, it's well integrated into the whole Playstation experience. PSP and PS3 aren't just connected by their family name but they are very intertwined with each other unlike DS and Wii connectivity.

People have to remember Sony isn't just battling on one front, they are battling on two fronts, the Home AND Handheld. The PSP has stay true to Sony's mission, and continues to carry on what the PS2 was great for. A lot of truely amazing JRPGs both story, gameply, graphics and voice acting, all the bells-and-whistles that we've grown used to the PS2.

The remake of FF7 on the PS3 would cement it's future as console leader once more. I mean think about it....that is the game that put the PS1 over the competition remember? The game's fanbase out numbers even Halo's with over 10million sold world wide. That game was a masterpiece and to bring it to the HD console would just have me jiz all over myself.

And there would be no way that game would come to Wii or 360, sony owns partial rights to the game. I believe Sony Published the game and Sony allowed it to go to PC and such through a special deal with Square. Sony also has a very good tie with Square and it's developers. The only person they would have make the game would be Tetsuya Nomura for he was part of the original cast and gave many of the plot ideas for the original game. Tetsuya love PS3, Hates 360, indifferent about Wii.

PS3 for the win!!!!!

FFVII remake is not going to happen ... or at least not until after FFV and FFVI remakes, and it will be on a handheld system, and if it's exclusive will be on a Nintendo handheld. Thus will the scar finally be fully healed.

Why would FFVII be remade on the DS with worse graphics??? The single most requested feature of FFVII remake was better graphic... a DS remake of FFVII will completely defeat the purpose of FFVII remake...

Wha are you talking about? The DS's graphics are better than the PS1's (ands N64's).

Look at FF VII:

Now compare it to something like FF4:

I don't see much of ANY improvement from PS1's FFVII (PS) and FFIV (DS). Btw DS graphic is NOT better than PS1... I don't know where you get that crazy idea from...

FFIX on PS1

This is original FF4 which on the DS Showed DRASTIC improvement

why don't you look at this? FFVII- Crisis Core. THIS as the new FFVII engine at least showed some drastic improvment.

FF7 on PS3 would overshadow FF13 altogether, let alone make up for lost exclusivity.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

The announcement of an ff7 remake would overshadow any announcement I have heard since the ff13 trilogy was announced - regardless of whether or not it would be exclusive. As far as ffv13 goes, I am still unsure as to whether it will remain exclusive as well.
