I'd have to say no and no. Loosing FFXIII exclusivity was this gen's most epic fail imo.

^Excuse me? I just plain wrote that Sony made the biggest mistake of this gen and that warrants a Sony fanboy tag? Wtf?

I'm not talking about you. I'm talking about the guy who made the comment before me

a 30% failure rate its harder than loosing exclusitiy

its not like the ps3 isn't getting the game.

The 360 had a 30% failure rate in 2006. It's nearly the end of 2008 and the there has to be around 5 % now.

Yes.

Though FF VII is boring crap anyway. Also, it won't happen with team members who would work on one areb usy making FF XIII/Versus XIII and it would take forever before they announce it. It would be too late to even release it. They'd have to wait until next gen so it wouldn't matter.

I'm surprised that you agree it would have a big impact, given your clear lack of FF perspective. =)

for me: yes
for other people: probably no

you guys act as if you still won't get the game sometimes you people make me wonder

why does it matter, there arent any final fantasy fans on xbox anyways!

"that's basically the same if Sony went after Gears 3"

Nope it is not the same
Final Fantasy as a brand name is miles ahead of Gears. And part of this rpg legend is the fact that FF7 put sony at the number 1 position back then as you mentioned.
For me FF 13 on 360 was one of the most shocking news in recent videogames history. And from the mouth of Square's president himself. This move alone might leave sony at the third place and open japan market for ms.

but ff13 360 is not going to be released in japan.

also the ps3 japanese version will be released alot of time before the ps3 english and 360 port ever starting.

Yes as of now ff13 is not going to be released in Japan for 360.

but along with star ocean, last remnant, inifinite undiscovery, lost odyssey, tales of vesperia, eternal sonata and blue dragon make a huge impression about jrpgs on the most hatefull console in Japan. Such moves and exclusivities set the stage for the future. And i strongly believe that ms will continue that way for the years to come. In a strange view of things i believe that WII is so succesfull because 360 made sony look not so strong and mighty. 360 battles fiercly for the same target group as sony and at the moment ms do better things to steal sony's hardcore fans.

And one more thing. the very first thing that 360 won because they entered early the next gen war was that many studios start to develop their first next gen games on 360. So by the time WII and ps3 launched, 360 had already many good games in work. That means that ms attracted first rockstars interest for the next gta, or square-enix's interest for the next jrpg, etc. If ms launch a new console first again by the end of 2010 i think that the next mgs, gtas, ffs might be exclusive for xbox720.
