Forums - Nintendo - Finally got to sit some more with Okami...

I've had this for a while, I watched the 30 minute intro, played for about 10 minutes and then it sat on my shelf while I was trying and failing to work up some the Geometry Wars leaderboard.

Now, I've played 2 hours.

Pros:

The game is beautiful.

Cons:

Fighting is always contained in the bubble?

Maps are boring

The paintbrush is inconsistent.  Sometimes it's forgiving and does understand what I meant when I make a sloppy mess, sometimes it's picky and won't understand when it should.

What's the point of making ink a collectable if they're going to give me so much that I'll never run out?

The characters are all annoying.

Digging, it sucks.

Too much time between standard attacks.

Music has it's moment, but the general background score in forgetable.

Too much crap going on in the menu, especially since it seems to have no real effect on what's going on.

Stop explaining what a fruit is, but then glancing japanese stuff and main story points.

Game looks great,  but it is not enough to get me to want to continue playing.

Most over rated game I have played this gen.  (Yes more over rated than GTAIV though not more overhyped than that or Halo3; just over rated.)

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

why is nobody allowed to say something negative about the holy Okami? Seriously just because a game is always dragged out as example for games as art you can still criticize it.

Fighting is always contained in the bubble? You'll get used to it

Maps are boring The maps open up later on in the game into huge expansive areas

The paintbrush is inconsistent.  Sometimes it's forgiving and does understand what I meant when I make a sloppy mess, sometimes it's picky and won't understand when it should. The brush controls have a learning curve so to speak, eventually it'll click and you'll have alot of fun using the celestial brush

What's the point of making ink a collectable if they're going to give me so much that I'll never run out? Trust me you will run out of ink plenty later on in the game

The characters are all annoying. you'll love some of the later characters in the game and will grow quite fond of certain characters

Digging, it sucks. Theres lots of digging to come and it gets more exciting in certain parts

Too much time between standard attacks. You eventually get the chance to enhance your combo capabilities and you'll acquire much less frustating weapons than the reflector

Music has it's moment, but the general background score in forgetable. I initialy felt the same but it gets better

Too much crap going on in the menu, especially since it seems to have no real effect on what's going on.

Stop explaining what a fruit is, but then glancing japanese stuff and main story points. Hell yeah i'll agree there, lol

Game looks great,  but it is not enough to get me to want to continue playing. Trust me the game gets a lot, lot better later on to the point where you won't be able to put it down.

Have you seen Montana's avatar in the passed 10 months?

By the way, I think RubangB was joking.

This game is great, not perfect, not a zelda killer and I can't believe it won GOTY from IGN back in the original release, but it did deserve alot of the critical acclaim it got (Note: I'm only talking about the PS2 game, not sure about the Wii version or if there were any issues with it).

The only part I agree with (complaintwise) is annoying characters, and that's only because of Issun. I hate that little noob. Besides that, I think most of your complaints are because you haven't explored the game properly enough yet.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not a vocal Okami-supporter, I actually have the opinion that it's greatly overrated. I still think you're being too harsh against it.

I hate when idiots say shit about a game when they have not played enough to give it a decent judgement. Most of the complaints are just idiocy to any one that has played the game.

Its one of the greatest games I have ever played, its a real gamers game. I can see why the full on casuals who want to play a game with no story or depth for 20 minutes might not like it though.

Also the controls are good, as good as can be expected with the wii-mote. Unless its the first time you have picked up a wii-mote, you will not have any huge problems with Okami.

-UBISOFT BOYCOTT!-

sorry but the game is good, but it's not great. It's basically a new, prettier, funnier but less polished Zelda. There's really nothing spectacular about Okami (and I've played over 30 hours). I swear every area in Okami gives me deja-vu.

it's a good game (I like Zelda too) but it's nothing special.

And the paintbrush controls on the Wii are fucked. Sorry to say, but they really could have been so much better.
