Forums - Sony - No co-op for KILLZONE 2 at launch?

It's not gamebreaking(see CoD4) but it is important.

Its a nice feature in a game that can provide good coop play. It would have been idiotic in CoD4 where the whole single-player experience depended on scripted events. How would this work for coop play? And Killzone2 is if anything a CoD4 in the future at least from the gameplay perspective. So if you want coop go buy a game where this makes sense.

And yes there are gametypes where online play doesn't make sense. All adventures, games like Uncharted etc. This is different for FPS where multiplayer is a key-feature. But normally with special multiplayer maps that are very carefully calibrated.

The devs had went on record saying the game becomes broken its put under multiplayer. However, once they finish the game, they would add it in as DLC in the not too distance future. So I would expect to see it sooner or later.

Console Agnostic since 2001.

It's bad anyways. I don't understand how such an expensive game is coming out in 2009 without co-op.

I just hope they do it quickly, I'm only getting the game when the patch comes out.

Nobody should be worried about this, why? Because, the deves have already said that it won't come with bots or multiplayer co-op on launch, but it will have a patch for bots straight after launch and DLC soon after launch too for co-op. All confirmed.

I got the above info off ps3fanboy.com.

Also to note, the deves have a strong history of free DLC too.

^ That's good to know. Though I don't like it when it's tacked on and un-necessary (I found Halo 1's plot to be less appealing because of that), but I appreciate it being there, particularly when there are areas better suited for co-op (the flood and vehicles sections).

But I think my opinion about FPS co-op will change when R2 lands, depending on how good that is, I may feel the same way as Kyros about it all.

Fingers crossed they won't charge for co-op DLC, but it seems likely they will (if it is new co-op missions).

I think they said they were going to patch it in at a later date. (Kinda weird announcing a patch already for a game that's 6 months away isn't it?)

i dont know man i always dont like my screen splitted :P

Yeh, it is weird that they announced the patch for these now, 6 months before launch. Go figure..

Wow co-op for a FPS. That must be one of the most useless features ever. Seriously. I would love to know how many people use this.

Remember Contra?

So, Gears of war. If you don't have a second player, you have a computer controlled guy with you the whole time. Dom.

Anyway, Co-Op was the key feature missing from CoD4, and it's awesome in any FPS or TPS. It's fantastic. You've just never had a really good co-op session. If you did, for instance, play through Gears of War with a friend, you'd understand why some people really like that feature.

Calling it a bullet point, or unimportant, is the same as calling online play a bullet-point, or unimportant. It's actually great, it is significant that the game is missing it. It's not gamebreaking(see CoD4) but it is important.

As for how many people use it...well I know for Gears of War, everybody I know that has the game, uses it, and it is the only reason the game has so much replayability. You can let your dad, or your girlfriend, or whoever, play player 2. The game is designed ground up for smart co-op, even allowing for you to split up at certain points in the game, and take different routes. It is definitely the reason the game is still so highly lauded, and the fact that you were so harsh on co-op, means that you haven't experienced a great session of it, and by "great" I mean standard.

That, or you're making excuses for the game.

Because though a shooter can be fantastic without co-op(RE4, CoD4) there is no doubt that these games would have been played longer, and enjoyed more if that deceptively hard to insitute feature was added.

You wanna know why Gears kicks so much ass? It's the best co-op shooter in existance.

You've got a bad argument here Kyros.

For the record, I really hope that KZ2 does end up with co-op.

I would say Halo 2, Goldeneye, or Timesplitters 2 are all better choices for the co-op shooting crown then Gears.
