Forums - Sales - Why people say GeOW2 will be a system seller?

That commercial is a system seller!!

I think you are right all the advertising they are putting behind GOW2 may help to sell systems as much as the game.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

dbot -

It means that if Playstation 3 fans argue, and assume that lesser-selling titles such as Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 can move consoles, then why not a game that is much better rated, and better selling? Gears 1 outsold Resistance and Killzone combined.

mrstickball - It seems like a defensive comment to a fair question. The op is curious as to why people think the GeoW2 will push consoles. It has nothing to do with Sony, Resistance 2, or Killzone 2.

I think Gears of War 2 will be a great game that will sell very well, but I don't see it moving a lot of hardware for reasons previously stated. It is a sequel to a game already released on the 360 and Gears 1/Halo 3 have already brought in the FPS crowd. That being said, I don't see KZ2 or Resistance 2 selling any hardware either. But I expect both to be good games.

And he gave you a legitimate answer: the same guys who claim KZ2 and R2 to be systemsellers shout out loud that gears 2 won't move units using reasons in their arguments that could easily be applied to R2 at least.

Correct. I was using something called "Logic". Many Sony fans assume that R2 and KZ2 will move consoles, so my argument was that if that argument holds true, then it should hold true for a bigger, more popular game.

dbot's second statement follows my logic: I wasn't trying to defend Gears. Merely employ logic that we all can follow. If you feel that Gears 2 won't move consoles, that's your opinion. But it's impossible not to find the paralell between R2/KZ2 arguments and Gears 2 arguments.

- I agree w/ this.

I don't think any of these games will sell a substantial number of consoles, nor should their success be based on that.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Why? Because

1) Its a huge online game with co-op and up to ten players.
2) Story mode looks ten times as thrilling to play as the first gears had.
3) Friends of gears 1 fans(who happend to number in the millions) will want to get gears 2 as well so they can play it with they're buddies
4) Its got a freaking chainsaw attached to a gun. What does Killzone have again? Good lighting?

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Killzone 2 has the best graphics man has ever seen. But I do think Gears 2 will be a hit.

Look, the first Xbox sold 15,000,000 consoles in the US. Right now the Xbox360 is already at 12,000,000 in the US. How many people do you really think are going to buy a 360 for Gears 2 now, and not for Halo and not for the original Gears?

I think it will sell a good 6,000,000 units, but I don't think we are going to see any where near a Halo 3 level boost.

BTW:

I still think the first Gears had the best commercial ever. I think the commercial itself sold some games, without people even knowing what the game was about.

Seriously, what commercial ever can top that!? That commercial was definitely the reason I picked up Gears of War

GeOW2 a system seller? i lol'd.

I agree, haha. To even entertain the thought that it will not be a system seller is laughable.

Diddo.

A long overdue rendezvous doot doo doo.

Just kiss the tip.

I'd say it depends on how the game is, if the game is a big step up from the original and everyone talk about it, it will sell systems. If its got some mediocre reviews then it will not sell systems obviously.
I think Halo2 sold many xbox's because of its online capabilities, it was the best online game at the time.
Can't wait for gears2, I hope it doesn't flop.

My favorite games for this gen:

1. Gears of War    2. MGS4    3. Killzone 2   4. Halo 3(Underated by many)      5. Mass Effect

just because you like jRPG's doesn't mean thats what the entire general public wants. you do realize 60% of the 360's userbase is north americans who only care about FPS (including me) and maybe some driving/sports games. Americans don't care about good story, they care about good gameplay and shooting.

Gears of War 2 will be a system seller. It should move over 6+ million units considering its one of only 2 massive selling series exclusive to the 360.

Given Halo 3 has sold to only half of American 360 owners, it appears safe to say that there is a substantial audience on the 360 that doesn't only care about FPS.

Debating with fanboys, its not
all that dissimilar to banging ones
head against a wall

it will still sell systems, people now associate the 360 with games like Gears 1 and prospective 360 owners may wait for Gears 2 before buying one
