Forums - Sales - Why people say GeOW2 will be a system seller?

I don't see it moving a lot of consoles because like you said, I think the FPS community is already established on 360..it will move some though, but like I said of the PS3 - I think the overall lineup between now and christmas is what will sell consoles, not particularly any one game.

Strike one: Gears is not an FPS. It is a TPS and the 360 does not have many of those.

In regards to the OT: Gears is a blockbuster franchise. The first game sold over 5 million. When you couple the anticipation of Gears 2 with the now cheap 360 SKUs, that is a very appealing prospect. I know some friends in college who have limited budgets, but will be highly tempted to purchase a $199 360 and a copy of Gears 2.

Yeah, the point is that a second game in a franchise can push consoles... Which is untrue.

A few will be pushed, but the second game is the same as the first, if you didn't like the first, you won't like the second. That applies to any game, in general, sequels of games, are just like the games before, if you didn't like them you won't like the sequel and vice versa.

The only time that sequels push consoles is when they jump consoles. Like Halo 3 pushing consoles since it was the first on the 360. And MGS4 pushing consoles, etc.

Fable 2 biggest system seller on any system these holidays confirmed?

Win by default again?

There are not any returning franchise for the big three coming this holiday that had their last itenerations on a Last-gen console.

PS3 - SOCOM: Confrontation, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm

Wii - Animal Crossing

360 - Fable 2, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts

So yes, it's a victory for the biggest system seller, though hollow, as it won't push many systems, comprable to what MGS4 pushed or Halo 3 pushed.  If you said "System seller of the year", that'd go to MK Wii or Brawl.

Talking about this holiday... you failed.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Why? Because it will be a system seller. Gears is by far the best MS exclusive title (IMO), so much like MGS4 moved PS3's, it will move 360's.

just because you like jRPG's doesn't mean thats what the entire general public wants. you do realize 60% of the 360's userbase is north americans who only care about FPS (including me) and maybe some driving/sports games. Americans don't care about good story, they care about good gameplay and shooting.

Gears of War 2 will be a system seller. It should move over 6+ million units considering its one of only 2 massive selling series exclusive to the 360.

That advert is the best! Lol. I cant wait for this Resistance/Killzone killer.

End of '08 predictions (made by theprof00): PS3: 20m, 360: 23.5m, wii: 42m

Now Playin':  PS3|Resistance 2, LBP, Uncharted and Fifa 09, PSP| Ratchet and Clank: Size matters, 360| Gears of war 2 and Fallout 3.

Gears of War 2 won't be a system seller. Most people who want it already bought a 360 for the first version. And now that everyone knows that this will almost certainly come out on PC many people will skip the 360 version.

You're right, my mistake.  I better be careful on the next pitch, I don't wanna get to 0-2..then I'm in a hole!

And you may be right.  They'll be tempted by it, but it will only help if they consider the rest of the holiday lineup, right?  I'm not saying some wouldn't do it just for Gears, though.

Haha, yeah, you would be in a hole and that is undesirable.

I would say the rest of the holiday lineup will help. I think Gears will be the crown jewel, but the other games will definitely be a selling point.
