Good rule of thumb.

Watch anything by Gainax, Bones, and Gonzo and avoid with the fear of god anything produced by sunrise.

I'm sorry but that is generalising and ignorant. It's attitudes and comments like that which end up sucking almost every ounce of fun out of watching and discussing anything to do with them, regardless of good or bad. I'm going to be honest and say that Sunrise is my favorite animation studio based on what they have made that i like. Out of my top 5 anime of all time Sunrise has made 4 of them. By Comparison i haven't liked ANYTHING Gainax has made outside of Gunbuster and Gonzo has made Fullmetal Panic and Dragonaut which are two of the worst anime i've seen in my life, but i don't hold it against them. Anime studios are not some kind of brain in a jar which dictates the outcome of everyone and everything within it's duristiction, they are all made up out of people. Yes, Gundam Seed Destiny was crap to say the least, but it didn't make me cautious of Sunrise...it just made me learn to avoid any thing directed by Mitsuo Fukuda.

Full Metal Panic is probably one of the best anime ever made; the plot arc in helmajistan (Afghanistan) was awesome if very sad.  FMP:Fumoffu is easily the best anime comedy I've ever seen.

Generalizations aren't always right but they do originate from somewhere.

Sorry if I offended you, but i find Studio's to be very important. I mention the ones I do because they have overwhelming quality. They are all well known for superb animation, narrative, and style. This doesn't mean they never mistep, but thats the exception.

Sunrise used to be like that, but modern Sunrise is not the same studio of Mobile Suit Gundam/Escaflowne/Cowboy Bepop fame. They are terrible animators now. They slide and reanimate way to often. In fact I believe Gundam Wing was stretched to 52 episodes using a mere 30 minutes of footage.

I think you're confusing Gundam Wing with Dragon Ball Z.

Only if you can handle the bounce.

PS:  It's depressing to see lists from people who've probably never seen anything that wasn't shown on Cartoon Network or Adult Swim...

I cannot imagine what would happen if Gainax ever made a series that didnt feature the bounce. I think fans will riot, it's the norm now.

Kare Kano even had bounce, lol.

Nah, both are horrible offenders. However the lack of Relena and addition of Vegeta makes DBZ much more bearable.

You should try out Yu Yu hakusho(my favorite anime).

Death note is also good, but i havent seen all the episodes so im not sure if its great ill the end,but from the looks of it i think it will be.

Dragon ball z is also a great anime,it is probably the longest from all(nearly 300 epsiodes)its all about fighting so if you like fighting try it out(but i preffer Yu Yu Hakusho over this,yu yu hakusho may be shorter but it has better and more interesting fights).
Then there is also Dragon ball which is before DBZ and there is Dragon ball Gt which is after DBZ.
I liked the early episodes of DB then it didnt really interest me anymore.
DBGT was good in the beginning, then it slowed down abit then it became awesome.
For me it goes DBZ>DBGT>DB(from the dragon ball series).

Code geass ive only seen some episodes a while ago,and i liked it,i need to start watching it again.
This does sorta resemble Death note except this is with war,its also good.

Try out Yu Yu Hakusho first if you like fighting animes,if not try out Death Note.

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

Yu Yu Hakusho started off wonderfully. It has a delightfully ironic premise but it soon develops into villain-of-the-week.

Still, Yusuke was a fun main character and Boton was an adorable grim reaper.

Try out the epic Legend Of The Galactic Heroes
It has something for everyone, and is the best anime series till date imo

"The accumulated filth of all their sex and murders will foam up about their waist and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"...

....and I'll look down and whisper  "no."

A universe without the Gainax Bounce would be a scary place indeed.
