I don't know about any of you guys, but..... I have a rendezvous with death:

No, the price cut can only delay the inevitable. This is the 360's 3rd year on the market - and the 3rd year traditionally has the most sales.

So in 2009 360 sales will drop and PS3 sales will rise.

If Sony doesn't drop the price by November, I think the 360 will pull away for good. Certainly at least in North America the 360 would cement its lead. Problem is, I don't think Sony's going to stay at the $399 price point. Sony's been getting closer and closer to the 360 premium price point every year. I don't think this one will be any different. $50 to $100 price cut coming in November.

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Well 199 does seem li.... wait.... what???!!! The arcade???!!! HELL NO!!! Let's talk when the Premium or Elite is 200 dollars cheaper than the cheapest ps3!

I don't think so. Sony is all about profitability right now so regaining some of the PS3s massive losses is of much higher importance than simply beating Microsoft. Still though, even if Sony wasn't concentrating on making money, there is no really need for them to issue a price-drop since the PS3 will likely outsell the 360 this holiday season even at $400 for the reasons I mentioned above.

Microsoft's gaming division on the other hand is in much more trouble financially than Sony's. Microsoft still has about 6 billion dollars before they even break even in the industry. Sony has much of the profits from PS1, PS2, and PSP to cover for much of the losses of the PS3. Microsoft on the otherhand is being forced to issue price-drops on the 360 just to stay competitive with the PS3 (much less the Wii) and that is causing them to slide farther and farther away from ever making any money.

This might just be me talking out my ass when I say this, but if Microsoft doesn't ever see a profit with the 360 that recoups the cost of the of the system itself (nevermind the original Xbox) then I have a feeling that Microsoft is going to radically change directions with their next console so as to tap into the casual market like the Wii.

Yeah, I can definitely see this cementing the lead in America. I'm not sure why people are saying GeOW 2 will be such a system seller. I would think the FPS fanbase is well saturated on the 360. The price may bring in more casual folk, but the Wii may already be getting that market.
