Forums - Gaming - EA: "Mirror’s Edge will not be a timed exclusive for PS3."

lol, Reeves obtains an regular fail.

Anyway, like I said in the other post, I wish this was a timed exclusive for the PS3, so I could spread out my game purchases.

Other than that, I declined to comment, in case anybody was thinking I took a side on this. I didn't.

I don't need your console war.

You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Uhhh.

I don't think anyone "got" it when I said $ony strikes again. It's amazing how dense people are.

It was a JOKE. J-O-K-E. I doubt that Sony moneyhatted, or did anything amazing. The whole thought was that virtually every Microsoft timed exclusive has the same thing "M$ moneyhatted them!". I figured I'd try it once just to see if anyone would actually discuss it, but no one did. Everyone attacked me, without actual debate.

Again, I don't see how "$ony strikes again" can be seen as agressive? Every MS post has the same thing, and I never see any warnings or bans ever follow from those things...So why am I getting the heat?

The whole goal of my comment was just to see where Sony fans sat on the whole moneyhatting issue. It's oh-so routine on the X360 forums, and I don't think I have yet to see anyone argue about Sony moneyhats (but I guess it's rare that any game has been exclusive to justify the question being asked)....Why are Sony fans so touchy about it, when some of the same posters attack Microsoft using te same argument? It's very hypocritical, and I think the response to my post proved it. How does it feel, Sony fan to have someone ask that question? By the response, it must really be the end of the world to be treated like a Microsoft fan.

And to finish, just to state it again: Even in the last post, I DON'T think Sony moneyhatted for it. If DICE worked a deal out with Sony, or got somewhere quicker on the PS3 platform, good for them. Sony owners finally get something to go their way, hurray. At the end of my post, I merely asked "how it felt" to be accused of something outlandish and unlikely like moneyhatting.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Sure Stickball...

We believe you.

Good. I'm glad you do :)

Common sense wins again. Why would Sony ever buy Mirror's Edge exclusivity? There is no reason.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

The same reason Sony would want MGS4 exclusivity, I'd assume. It looks like it's going to be a good game.

There seems to have been some anti-Mirror's Edge posters that popped up because of this controversy, I don't get it. When the game trailer premiered, everyone was in awe. I'm still relatively excited about the game. Are there people who aren't?

Common sense, to me, dictates that a console wants as many exclusives as it can get its hands on. Especially hyped exclusives. "Sony just didn't want it," is bull. Everybody wants it. Who doesn't want it? What console manufacturer doesnt' want a hyped 3rd party exclusive on their console? That's bogus, and runs contrary to common sense.

Sure there is! Mirror's Edge looks like a excellent innovative new ip from EA. Those words in that order are reason enough to get your blood pumping.

MGS4 is an established franchise and just because Mirror's Edge looks good, it means nothing. We have many examples of when a game looked good in previews but turned out to be bad and good games that sold poorly. Mirror's Edge is a brand new IP and even though I am personally very excited about the game, from the business stand point that IP is not worth that much.

I'm not hating on Mirror's Edge. I'm really excited for it too. Exclusivity on it just doesn't make sense. First off, it's an EA internally developed game. But the reason Sony wouldn't want it is because it already has so many of its own internally developed exclusives. Sure every console maker wants as many exclusives as possible, but the law of diminishing returns certainly applies in this case. When you already have LBP, Motorstorm, SOCOM, Resistance, Wipeout, etc., one more exclusive coming out in the same time span of those games isn't going to yield great returns for Sony. Plus, Sony has to market all those games I mentioned, especially LBP, which is what they're depending on to bring in the casuals. Could they really afford to add Mirror's Edge to the mix and spend their marketing time and dollars on it? It's not really worth spreading your marketing dollars thin. And why add a game that will potentially take away sales from your own first party games?
