Forums - Microsoft - My 2 cents: Xbox Live should not be a forum for politics.

Republic you are off topic. Read the title and respond accordingly.

Yeah, Xbox Live is a ridiculous place to learn about politics. They should find more reliable sources, like the internet! This is where you know everything you read is true!

The dedication you show to any particular console or company is inversely proportional to the number of times you have gotten laid. If you get laid enough, even if you prefer a certain brand, you just don't give enough of a shit to argue about it on the internet.

I know right now a lot of you are saying, "What is this guy talking about? This will reach out to an expanded demographic of epic and unprecedented proportions."  Don't get me wrong this is going to reach out to millions of US XBL users but at what political cost.  Can you see a great outcome of random 18+ year olds making a vow to register and vote for a candidate based on, shall I saw, word on headset?  No.  It is in this forum that grave mistakes for our country's future can be made by the ill-prepared and misinformed.  A poll would be sufficient but until the maturity level of some XBL players "levels up", and you know some of the people I'm refering to, I cannot see this as a good thing.

Who are 18+ year old who play video games more likely to vote for?

hint: not the guy in your sig/avatar

So don't be upset if I think you're being a little biased.

You're 19 and you didn't pick your candidate on coolness, and you play Halo; what makes your situation/opinion/feeling any better than anyone else?

No I don't play Halo as of late--that's just my tag. I picked him on policies. By the way steve, I am a McCain staffer. See any other VGC members who are 19 and do that? Zing back.

Besides, check my profile for my qualifications and don't spam on my wall. I don't feel like wasting bandwith cleaning up sh(t.

Kind of inappropriate language to represent your candidate. If you are a staffer you should be a little more humble and not sound like the people that you created this forum to complain about.

@Halo: I wasn't zinging you at all.  I was saying that you are young, responsible, and play games; that you picked your candidate because of your deeper values - what makes your situation/opinion/feeling any better than anyone else? You didn't answer the question - you just made me not like you.

As a staffer, do you think that acting better than voters is going to help your candidate win?

Why would I want to pm or post on your wall?

@Wiibox3: People think they are invincible on the internet and do not have to consider or respect others.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

I've had some time to write something a little clearer:

The whole thread is skewed towards encouraging people not to discuss politics. The reason why so many people sound so stupid when they talk politics is because they rarely do it. It's taboo, or they feel like they are not smart enough, or it's not cool.

People discussing politics, might get someone to read the news or a book. It might get them to ask someone who does know. It definitely means they are spending time thinking about it.

The taboo of politics is evil in a system based on democratic principle. The beauty of democracy isn't to pit one group against another or only allow the elite. Democracy is stong and good when all minds contribute. Democracy should not be exclusive,it should be inclusive. The sum of our power.

To limit it is not just bad for those excluded, but to everyone as it becomes polarized. Those who disagree appear to be enemies and treat each other as such. When we talk about it more, ideas begin to meld. The truth of the issue becomes clear when it's discussed because an illogical argument won't hold up. Opinions will shift closer, those who disagree become an asset.

I actually think we do it pretty well.

The media may be biased and not as free as it could but the media encourages involvement.

We have many means to discuss freely without fear of punishment from those who govern.

Someone saying something about politics, who is wrong or doesn't agree should be corrected or convinced with tact and respect.

When you treat people with respect, even if they don't agree, they will listen and they may not change their mind completely but they will be mindful if the reasoning is sound.

(Edit: Secret code for at someone who PM's and posts on my wall and doesn't want their id tracked off this site... when a friend says "hey, don't tell anyone, alright?" my answer is "Don't tell anyone what?")

is this not just your fear that they would vote for Obama and not your beloved Mccain?

Halo

You questioned the relevance of my original post and I will admit that I was very obtuse in making my point.

Basically, it appeared in the OP that you did not like the thought of XBL being used for political campaigning because it would benefit a "cooler" candidate -- which is not the one you prefer. Then others posted about, if they only knew ....

My point was that directed more at the secondary reaction posts -- and for that I apologize.

That being said, the more ways we get the word out about the candidates, the better. Get the people to turn out and let them decide. If you do not have faith that people can govern themselves, then you do not believe in democracy and instead want to turn this country into something else. By limiting who can say what where, you are starting that process.

Thus, to be against people something that can get more people involved is potentially un-American.

Thats what polling stations are for, we don't need politics on either xbox live or on the internet games sites in general....... if people wanna talk politics then go to a damn politics site/forum/room blah blah

Well they don't even have the thing on Live except for a once in a blue moon small rectangular advert.

Conservatives are always fearful of the youth and minority vote and often try to suppress them.
