Forums - Microsoft - My 2 cents: Xbox Live should not be a forum for politics.

I think it would be interesting if we implemented a mandatory vote as they do in Australia (otherwise you get fined). The Republicans would not be for it unfortunately...

Regardless of whether we do that or not, election day should be a national holiday. It only happens once every four years (two years if you count the midterms), so why the hell not? I would sure love another day off.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

I completely agree that a lot of younger people tend to vote for the "popular" guy without knowing all the facts/stances they have on various topics.

It cracks me up when my friends (21-25 yrs of age) complain about taxes and then talk about how great Obama is. And it's the BEST when my friend who works for a company that profit shares, complains about taxes and how much his profit share gets taxed, and then talks about how much he wants Obama to win. I can't wait to see how much they complain about taxes if Obama wins. Makes me wonder if they know ANYTHING about politics.

You should be more worried about America's broken political system.

The worst thing is that ppl who are old enough to vote are some of the ppl on XBL who drop the N-bomb or start screaming at ppl for no reason. It scares me that so many uneducated and ill informed ppl will "rock the vote". I think its great to get more ppl voting but when some ppl vote for the sake of "Well McCain is white so im voting for him, or Obama is Black or has a nicer smile" that kind of nonsense is ridiculous.

Heck I can stand on a podium all dressed up in a nice suit and smile big, then say I'm going to put money back into the American people's pocket." With that statment ppl would vote for me which is sad.

It doesn't matter who you vote for. They are all puppets to the highest bidders.

Trust me, no one on XBL is voting, we are all idiots

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I think you guys are kidding yourselves if you really think that most of these problems are limited to the under-25 crowd.

It doesn't matter who you vote for because the electoral college is just bullshit. I am still frustrated over the 2000 election.
What ever happened to majority rules?

I could go into a political science lesson here. But just remember, sometimes it is the candidate who said he stands for X who is most likely to be able to do Not X. Because if he does it, as much as he was against it, then it must be OK.

(He here is used in general for He/She).

In other words, only Nixon could go to China (in the 1970s).

As for taxes, most new taxes that are being talked about, the way I understand it, are for those at much higher income brackets than I would say 99.9 percent of the posters here (250K). Something has to give after the last eight years of deficits. Of course, in an economic downturn, it is doubtful any new taxes will be enacted.

And as for majority rules, the Founding Fathers didn't think we could handle that ... so they invented the Electoral College. 2000 was one of the few times it did not work out that the popular vote candidate won the Electoral vote. I believe 1884 was the most recent prior. (The Founding Fathers also had Senators selected by state legislatures).

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

^Relevance Mike? I could see if that was for a debate thread between candidates but this is about the aspects of a political forum such as XBL and its players, irrespective of political affiliation, or if they even know about politics (or care), and its readiness to conduct a professional debate. This will lead to follow the leader and pop culture mess, I can bet you.
