I'm not arguing that Kennedy did a great job with the CMC. I'm arguing whether he was, as you put it, tied for the Greatest President Evah award.

In short, he's not. There are several Presidents that were far more influential and did far more for this country than JFK. The first three, for example. Washington somehow held this country together when they were little more than 13 rebellious colonies. Adams prevented a war with Britain. Jefferson, well, he's just a bad-ass.

I'd put Teddy Roosevelt up there too... way ahead of JFK.

If you poll historical scholars and political science experts.... Kennedy tends to rank in the middle teens.

I wouldn't put Kennedy on top as the best president ever, but he is one of the best.  I would say that Washington and Lincoln are the two best presidents, with contenders such as JFK following closely behind.

LOL at folks who think Palin's an awesome pick. Sure, she's hot and definitely a MILF. Sure, she's a rising and upcoming star in the GOP. Sure, she's loved wholeheartedly by Alaska, and she gets mad point for being a beauty queen and a point guard. However, the fly in the ointment is the investigation she's under. She is accused of firing her ex-brother-in-law's supervisor because he wouldn't fire him after he divorced her sister. I have been following this for a while. Sure, she's anti-abortion - keeping her son Trig when she knew he had Downs is awesome, but to woo Hillary supporters? Nah.

I am curious to see if the probe finds her guilty, how this will play out on the road to the White House - or if this probe will just vanish altogether.

You do know the Joint Chiefs of Staff are the heads of the US military... and not the important political leaders of the US right?

The Joint Cheifs of Staff's solution to everything is to invade it.

They'll suggest invading Pizza Hut if their pizza hasn't been delivered withing 30 minutes or less.

You underestimate the power that the Joint Chiefs of Staff has.  For instance, they have a large influence over George W Bush today.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, the decision for America's course of action came down to JFK, the Joint Chief of Staff, and JFK's brother Robert.  Whatever decision these people made decided the fate of the world.

The experts on it... the Siena college had him last at 14. (Kennedy)

Those ahead of him... in order.

FDR
Lincoln
Teddy Roosevelt
Washington
Jefferson
Wilson
Truman
Monroe
Madison
Eisenhower
Polk
Adams
and
Andrew Jackson (only one i disagree with)

The latest one polling experts... done by the WSJ also puts Reagan ahead of him.

Yes, it shows my lack of understanding. JFK saved the world by ending a pissing contest that no one would have started because of assured mutual destruction.

That ranks way higher than the Great Depression, WWII, or the myriad of other problems this country has faced.

I agree that it shows your lack of understanding.  All the top American leaders, except JFK, wanted a naval blockade and airstrikes into Cuba, which would have most likely caused the Soviets to answer back.  Read more about the politics of the Cuban Missile Crisis, specifically the stances of Americas decision makers at that time, to further your understanding of the topic.

Oh, I agree, we have to look no farther than Iraq to find JFK's wonderful achievements.

I give that post a 9.2.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

If we're arguing about the greatest president of all time, I'd like to throw in a ballot for Andrew Jackson and Calvin Coolidge.

The joint Chiefs of staff only have the power the president gives them.  The Joint chiefs of staff can't even pick out their own stationary paper if the president doesn't want them to.

Replace crappy Iraqi SCUD missiles with Soviet nuclear missiles for a better comparison.

They don't teach about Kennedy causing the genocide in Iraq in geopolitcal science class... because teachers like Kennedy.

He wouldn't know anything about that based off of just one course rather then actually learning about the presidents and there entire terms.
